I don't understand why people say you can't daily drive a manual car. I did it for years in Chicago traffic and had no problem. Modern cars have very light clutches so its not like a clutch from an old Lamborghini or Ferrari F40. Get out there a drive!

I’ve daily driven my original M2 for 4 years and it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it - don’t waste money on a second car - use the M2 and get some value and enjoyment from it before we have to go electric!! 🤪🤣

I always thought the goal of BMW's M cars to be the best daily drivers BMW could build. Fast, but not crazy; stiff but still pliant for road use; roomy with 4 seats and lot of storage. Maybe I'm off base here, but I daily a manual M2C and even doing a 60/70mph commute, it feels special and fun and makes me look forward to driving every day

Been trying to tell people for ages that M2 rear wheel drive manual is the way to go but would they listen?

I can TOTALLY relate! I've had my M2c about 2 months now, 6MT of course, and knew exactly what I was getting and why I wanted it. My daily is a Golf R, also 6MT. What a perfect pair for the enthusiast driver.

Some people have to daily drive their dream car, baby it with schelpping around town. We can't afford a garage full with multiple choices, multiple car specs of cars, for every conceivable car use scenario.

I went DCT with my ‘18, coming from a manual 235 (and many other manuals prior to that). Daily’d the 235 with no problem except in heavy traffic. IMO the DCT is the best of both worlds. It’s a rifle bolt in Sport+ with paddles. And unfortunately they’re killing the DCT’s, so that’s the last of a truly great drivetrain. Slush boxes in the near future.

Recently got into an M240i I did the opposite and ignored all automatics and got an Manual LCI car. Its a pretty good one car garage as it can be quiet, comfortable and efficient but can become loud, dynamic and engaging. Because it is softer edged compared to an M2 though, I think if I had an auto it would be a far to isolated driving experience, at least for me personally.

Weren’t all cars manual a few years ago? I mean, I’m not THAT old! DCT, and “ flappy paddles” are fairly new in real terms. There is no way you’d consider a Mk 1 Golf Gti or Peugeot 205 Gti in automatic !

M2 isn’t a daily it’s too good and wasted on a commute imho

Manual is always the better option for driving experience

I disagree with the 2 car garage idea, to me the whole point of an M Car is that it is both the daily driver and the weekend toy. If you’re going to have a GTD as a daily, why not go for a proper2 seater sports car as weekend toy?

Confession: I own a DCT m2 comp.
However, the majority of people (myself included) can’t afford to have 2 cars and therefore need to be able to get decent mpg and practicality but also be able to get fun out of it at weekends.
I don’t think one can be concluded as better than the other- they just suit different uses.

I had a 2016 golf GTI manual before and loved it, but having moved to DCT, I think it just takes a while to learn how the car interacts to get the same enjoyment out of a DCT car as a manual. Once you get used to a DCT, its still great fun, just in a different way to a manual in my opinion.

But yes, in an ideal world we would all have a great manual 2nd car for the weekends… if we could all afford a 50k car as a second car.

How reliable is the S55 engine? Would you recommend this over a 2023 Toyota Supra 3.0 Manual? I've been really torn the last couple of months.

Sadly the manual version is not available in my country, I would have bought the manual if it was. Still I am having more than enough fun driving the DCT M2 Comp. I keep a corolla which is reliable, cheap to run and maintain, as an alternative car. I don't use the M2 Comp as a weekend toy. It is the switch between the two that makes the experience of driving the M2 Comp even more special.

Not many people have the kind of money to buy two cars, particularly when one is an M2 Competition!

In 4-5 years everyone’s going to be looking for these cars like maniacs. They will be hard to come by.

Totally get that your content needs to align with sponsor/manufacturer opportunities but while you are waiting to sort the next blockbuster car can I suggest you try a 986/987 Boxster? I used to commute 500+ miles a week in my 986 2.7 and it was flawless IMHO. Sought B-roads where I could to avoid the motorways but it did those with aplomb as well. All that aside thanks for pushing out your content, have moved to Singapore where the chances of having a nice car and clothing the kids at the same time is slim.... Keep up the good work.

I own a DCT M2, and tho it`s not perfect it is defo the right choice in the real world, The manual is not the cars strong point and manuals have never been great in any BMW`s. Trust me I know what I am talking about with owning plenty of BMW`s over the 40 years of driving.. Want a manual ? Look elsewhere for shits and giggles !!
