The Only Cinnamon Roll Recipe You'll Ever Need!
There’s nothing like a warm, gooey cinnamon roll fresh from the oven—and this recipe gives you soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls every time! From a pillowy dough to a buttery cinnamon sugar swirl, and that creamy, dreamy frosting on top—this is the only cinnamon roll recipe you’ll need.
Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, these rolls are made from scratch with simple ingredients and tons of love.
Ingredients
For the Dough:
3 ¾ cups (470g) all-purpose flour
¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
½ tsp salt
1 cup (240ml) warm milk (110°F/43°C)
¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
For the Filling:
⅔ cup (130g) brown sugar, packed
1 ½ tbsp ground cinnamon
¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter, softened
For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
4 oz (113g) cream cheese, softened
2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup (90g) powdered sugar
½ tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency)
Instructions
Make the Dough:
Activate the yeast: In a bowl of a stand mixer, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir in the yeast and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. Add melted butter, and egg, mix to combine, then add flour and salt.
Knead the dough: Use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment knead for 5 minutes (if mixer, transfer to a floured surface and knead by hand for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.)
First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the Cinnamon Rolls:
Roll out the dough into a rectangle.
Spread softened butter over the dough. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the butter.
Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log. Cut into 8 big rolls or 12 equal smaller rolls.
Place rolls in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes until puffy.
Bake:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
Make the Frosting:
Beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
Spread over warm rolls and enjoy!
