Former submariner here. There is an escape training at sub school, but even that had to be changed due to injuries. I think most submariners go to sea already having made peace with the fact that escape wouldn’t be likely in most areas of operation.

I always thought they should have a compartment that releases from the sub and floats to the surface like the bridge or they release lifeboats that don’t inflate till they get to the surface so soldiers have something to float on
