Nonsense. An overhead light provides general lighting but not nearly enough light at night for reading or doing any other task that requires good light. For such tasks you need a table lamp that produces enough light.

You always need at least two sets of sheets per bed. One set to go into the laundry basket when soiled and one set to go onto the bare mattress. If you do not have your own washer and dryer or clothesline, you will need to wait until you have enough soiled laundry to warrant a trip to the laundromat and in the meanwhile you should not be sleeping on a bare mattress or dirty sheets. And if you live in a climate that has cold winters, you will want flannel sheet sets for cold weather as well as those thinner sheets that are intended for warm weather.

Some basic kitchen tools that are designed for one purpose can work more efficiently than using a tool that is not designed for that purpose. For example, a whisk works much better than a spoon if you need to mix a thin batter or beat egg whites until they are a stiff foam. Sure, if you never use a specialty tool then it is just taking up storage space and should be donated. But if you use that specialty tool frequently, you should keep it.

Used paperback books are cheap at thrift shops and library sales. Kindle books can be expensive unless they are free Kindle Unlimited books. And a paperback book, once read, can be given to a friend. And the friend can give some of their books to you. Try doing that with a purchased Kindle e-book.

A rice cooker will stop itself from continuing to cook once the rice is done and will safely keep the rice warm until you are ready to eat. This means no scorched rice or kitchen fires if you are not attentive enough and have chores to do elsewhere while the rice is cooking. If your household consumes rice often, then a rice cooker will produce rice for lunch and then keep the remaining rice warm until dinner time -- this saves both time and labor.

Used movie DVDs often cost a lot less than purchasing a streamed movie. And you can give the DVD to someone else or donate it when you are done with it. Try doing that with a purchased streamed movie.

Can you listen to your favorite music when the local power grid is down, or the local internet is down? You can play your favorite music CDs in a battery-powered CD player or in your vehicle if it has a built-in CD player any time you like. But maybe music just is not all that important to you and anyone's music for free from the radio is good enough.

You definitely need more than 1 pair of sheets. Washers and dryers have been junk for years. It may take time to get parts to fix them or time to get a new one I mean the 3rd new one in 10 years delivered. I don’t want to run to the laundromat and pay their exorbitant prices. Have more than 1 set of sheets. That’s frugality.

I find streaming annoying and it can get expensive. Each channel wants you to pay for a monthly subscription. So I'll continue to buy DVD's when there is something I like. If you have a DVD you can watch it whenever you want. Not so with streaming.
