I have nearly the same trim and windows as you. Of course they used some kind of press board so now it all needs to be replaced because it's rotten after 18 years. Thanks for the easy explanation!

The nailing flange of the window is ~1/16" do you not remove that amount of the trim to get a flat install? Wouldn't the edge of the trim by the window stick out at an angle due to that flange?

Can I used a silicone sealant at the top? I have really poor drainage with my windows that causes the rot.

Do you not need to caulk around the window trim when putting in a new piece?

I'm replacing wood w/ PVC. The PVC planks are 3/4" where the wood was/is 1". They don't carry the 1" thickness planks here. Should I just shim to compensate for the 1/4" difference or find 1/4" wood to use as a backer so the parts I replace are even w/ the wooden boards which aren't rotted? Even if I replaced all, the trim wouldn't be flush w/ the window, so even replacing all, would need something behind it. Thanks.

Would you want to add some spray in insulation before re installation?

so, i am trying to replace an old window. it had a brick mold on outside, rough opening is 30-1/4"x49-3/4". It seems most new windows are fiberglass and have no brickmold. Is my solution to cut the masonite siding to fit 1x4 trim material on the outside?

I have an 1982 double wide mobile home with siding that sits sideways up to aluminum windows. I'm replacing windows to vinyl myself starting this month. my question is can I cut 4" off siding around exterior of old Windows to reveal and access old window flange then put 1x4 painted wood around new window when done?
