How to Replace Sun Damaged, Dried, Cracked Exterior Wood Window Trim with PVC

In this video, I replace my exterior window trim. This window is sun facing and the trim was very dry, brittle, and starting to crack. By replacing it with pvc trim, it will last a lot longer than regular wood. I hope this video helps if you needed to do this project or one like it.

I really like your vds. Reality meets actual house fixes. Nothing is perfect, but you are protecting your house.
Caulk - the holy grail of fixing mistakes.

Using PVC, I think it's a great choice and glad you recommended it. I need to have the windows across the front of my house scraped and painted, they face east and get all that morning sun. I'm in Florida, so there's a lot of sun penetration. If any of the trim needs replaced, I'll be using your suggestion of PVC. I learn so much watching your channel. I'm not physically capable of doing the work, but when I hire someone, I know how they should be doing the jobs. Thank you.

Always love watching your videos, it makes me feel like I'm at my brother's house helping him work on odds and ends like this. Can't wait to get my first starter home soon so I can turn these videos on while I work on my own projects. Also, I don't blame you for not wanting to scribe the bottom near the sill, that would be a tedious process trying to chip that away haha. Cheers!

Lots of useful info in your video. Have you ever used DAP Dynaflex Ultra caulk? I use it exclusively on my 1920 craftsman. It eliminated my need for silicone and is just as paintable as 230. I don't envy your worn out shingles.

Question about the taping step. If water gets behind the board, wont it go through the screw holes to the other side of the tape and then not have a way out?

Fantastic video. Question, I need to replace my window, sill, and trim. What order would you recommend? Thanks so much, definitely subscribing!

Those PVC screws are nice. But they're a pain to back out if you need to remove them. That was my experience when using them for my wood facia that I was staining white.
