Since launching PS5, we’ve been amazed to see how players around the world have embraced the generational leaps we made in the gaming experience, such as the heightened feeling of immersion delivered by the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in the DualSense wireless controller. Our PlayStation community continues to give us a reason to challenge ourselves to bring new innovations to the market for all players to enjoy. That’s why today, we are especially pleased to share new updates about our upcoming hardware products.

In May, we gave a quick peek at our dedicated PS5 remote play device – now called PlayStation Portal remote player, and our first wireless earbuds, called Pulse Explore. Today we’re pleased to share more details about these products and reveal a new PlayStation over-the-ear wireless headset, Pulse Elite. Both Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore deliver low latency lossless audio from PS5 and PlayStation Portal using our new PlayStation Link wireless technology. PlayStation Portal remote player
PlayStation Portal remote player brings the PS5 experience to the palm of your hand. It includes the key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback*. The vibrant 8-inch LCD screen is capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps, providing a high definition visual experience that’s expected from the high quality games created by world-class developers.

PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house. PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi**, so you’ll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal. PlayStation Portal can play supported games that are installed on your PS5 console and use the Dualsense controller. It also includes a 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio. PS VR2 games, which require the headset, and games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud streaming, are not supported.

Your internet speed has nothing to do with it (if you're playing at home). It's all about your wifi network, it's capabilities, response time, and how much traffic you're contending with. If you lease your equipment from your ISP, you're likely to have fairly poor performance for this kind of thing.

You mentioned having 10 roommates, and that likely doesn't bode well for your experience on this device, which seems to be on full display in your video.

Max, just a comment: You having a 2Gbps connection to the internet has nothing to do with how low your latency gets from the PS5 to your router and back to the Portal. Even if we were talking about using your actual internet connection for external usage, the biggest factor would be the latency of your connection, as long as you had a good minimal internet speed.

Considering how much trouble I've had with stick drift on ps5 controllers, there's no way I'd risk getting this.

Update your routers firmware. Disable 802.11g mode on your router.

I got mine today and love it. So far haven't had any disconnects, but I have only played it for a couple of hours.

One thing.
Your internet speed has absolutely nothing to do with how well a device can stream within your home network environment.
You could have the fastest internet in the world but still have a poor home network setup that would impact a device like this.

So most of you might know this and I don't know if this was said on purpose or by mistake. But it doesn't matter how fast your internet download speed is. Even if it's fastest in ALL of Texas. The portal uses your local network and The speed and reliability of the network inside of your home has nothing to do with download speeds. It does have everything to do with the quality of your router. the placement of your router, the type of walls in between your router and device. how many devices are on your network. what network protocols each device is using etc. It's a disservice to automatically say that the device is lacking.

At first I was hyped for this because I originally thought that it was like the Wii U Gamepad (in that it connects via bluetooth to the console). I later found out that it's similar to a remote play device so a strong internet connection is required otherwise you'll have lag, input lag, resolution might drop, etc. In short, it's like playing games through the cloud.

Dealbreaker for me is that it doesnt have the ability to connect to a wifi connection where you have to agree to a ToS

Still latency on a wired PS5 and 5ghz wifi connection btw, 1gb download 500mb upload speed.

I know this is the point, but i just love how you bring up "I can even be outside on this beautiful day in the park!" but outside the video you're sitting at a park, playing your playstation console, while holding your phone or camera in some sorta set up. Like the whole point of being at a park, just to do what you can do at your house is such a funny visual

So it's basically a $200 door stop.

Have been playing Control and MK1 for 6 hours or so and have had 0 disconnects and zero issues so far. Sounds like an issue with his network setup, router or Portal itself

Following up on this. I’ve been playing portal for 2 days now and haven’t had any disconnects. The only time I had any trouble connecting was while streaming Hulu upstairs and streaming from my cable provider downstairs WHILE using portal. It took an extra minute to connect and then was fine.

WHAT?!😦 No Bluetooth for wireless earphones? And no web browser to accept public wifi terms of service?! Like in Cafes, Coffee shops, Restaurants, Airports etc. This a Huge deal breaker for anyone traveling locally and abroad, Especially bummed not being able to access in flight wifi provided by the airline for long flights☹

I have 1 Gig Internet, I played with mine a few times today, multiple games. I probably played for a few hours it didn't disconnect at all. Although I did set up Port Forwarding a while back. I don't know if that helps or not. I love it. But I think the Speakers can be better. This is the base model, it can only get better from this. Maybe OLED, better connection software/hardware, more speakers and other downloadable apps that can stream.
