Calves are probably one of the muscles that are most influenced by genetics. I know dudes that sit 16 hours a day and still have huge calfs.

I did my calves at 661.39 pound three times a week no lie, clean no PED's.with Steroids I was at about 700 pounds.I was very strong as a kid.I never had the Bodybuilder physique though.I was muscular but I wasn't lean, I was more like a powerlifter.I miss those years I'm now 57, still strong.

That’s if your on gear. If your not, your ability to recover is greatly impacted.

For whatever reason with calves this does work. Had 15’ calves for a couple years hitting them twice a week on legs & didn’t grow. Changed to 2 sets every day, 15-20 reps. Rest pause within the set & theyre 16.5’ now, frequency & higher reps really seems the trick at least for me to get growth. I’m natural btw, calves when you get used to it can recover from daily stimulus more than any other muscle group

If you want to grow calves, run up & down stairs. It is similar to Arnold’s advice. It is basically a ton of calf raise volume & esp having to control the eccentric on descent

I think this is great advice not only for calves but other dense muscles, I started training my neck more for Jiu Jitsu just to give myself a bit more protection and doing it twice a week. I saw minimal improvement but doing it 5 to 6 days a week ..saw a huge improvement.

Guys, im hit trainer, and am coach, and I love research, every idea that comes to my mind, I implement it on my students and myself
All naturals can train every 48 or 72 hours at most
If you want to grow calves
Standing Machine Calf Raise : 1 set 25 rep
Do this movement at the end of every training session
And go heavy
Dont forget intensity and failure

I only train calves 2 times a month. If I do them more, they out overpower my quads (flow)

Genetics determine if they’re already big, that doesn’t mean you can’t grow them. It’s a stubborn muscle, it requires a lot of work to get them to grow.
