I still remember when I started working out at 13 years old. My dad didn't "and still doesn't" know squat about working out, so he bought me a book by Arnold on how to workout with my Sears concrete and plastic weight set. Although it was very old fashion, it did teach me the basics on how to train. Goes to show you there are so many effective methods for training as long as you get the basics down.

I'm 51 years old and have been weight training since I was 16. Without a doubt Arnold was hands down the biggest influencer the sport has ever seen or will see. Bravo.

Still one of the greatest physiques of all time. Yea these days conditioning is even more strict and legs are more emphasized in judging, but Arnold just had some of the craziest proportions ever. His chest is still legendary lol

He was a hard worker in the gym, when he was locked in — nobody was interrupting his workout 💪🏻

There is nothing like doing your cardio to a new Coach Greg video. Sending love from Montreal, cheers.

One of my favorite principles of his is the pyramid style rep scheme. Starting with lighter weight, increasing weight each set, and working up to a 1-3 rep max. Could also do the reverse and start heavy and work down to lighter weight but you’d definitely want to make sure you’re properly warmed up first.

Absolutely loving drop sets on plate-loaded machines lately. Added cardio to my program so now I have to reduce volume to not be at the gym for 2+ hours and these drop sets are a blessing.

What an absolute beast, everyone was obsessed with him and the whole gym was quiet when he was training.

Brother I love this set not only because of the valuable information but your energy. You make the contents informative and entertaining. A plus. At 61 I’m still training hard, not as large as I used to be in my early 50s due to injuries I incurred with over 40 years of training but also 41 plus years in the military, 26 years active the rest as a contractor has taken a toll on my body. Aging does sucks but my younger gym and military peers are impressed with both my shape and workout ethics. It is about incorporating weightlifting as a life style. Once again love your channel. Take care to you and as well as all the viewers. Rikko

Love this advice! Just because you’re natural doesn’t mean you train with less intensity!

I do gotta point out that Jeff cavalier is a physical therapist, some of the "fancy" exercises are therapeutic and they actually work. I used one of them to correct shoulder issues and another for back pain.

On that "shock the muscle" idea, I agree with Greg, do dropsets. I've done this for about a year and a half and it works. I warm up a few light sets just to grease up the joints but my first working set is a weight I am likely to hit failure at 10-12 reps, so that's pretty heavy when you're fresh. Then I drop set down. All the sets after this are usually only 5-8 reps before I hit fail. Usually 15 to 30 seconds between sets, 6 weight drops usually gets it done.

To put it simply Arnold along with pretty much all old school guys trained what FELT right. They didn’t have all these contradicting studies that we have today. They just went in the gym and put in some work.
