Snapdragon Laptops: My Quick Take

I really recommend people who are interested in these laptops to check them out in real life in a shop. Because I did, and honestly it seemed that the Surface Laptop 7 is completely unparalleled in build quality. Genuinely felt better than the M3 Macbook Air. Already bought it, and it's amazing so far. The haptic touchpad is amazing, the speakers hidden under the keyboard instead of an ugly speaker grill is genius, and the entire thing is super robust, not a single creak no matter where you grab it. And, I thought it will be appalling at gaming, but shockingly enough so far everything I tried ran, and ran okay, including Subnautica, Grounded, Prey, Scrap Mechanics...

Thank you your honest review with advantages and disadvantages. I bought Surface 7 and it’s works better than I was expecting. Not sure if I’ll keep it but wanted to see if it was worth going from cisc to risc for battery life.

Yeah. basically these only worth to buy if you make sure your apps run run without issues. So avoid these if you need to run specific niche or uncommon software or you need do it all laptop for a lot of different software

I'm also worried about how badly windows os will age the laptop. I swear windows updates have a 50% chance of lowering your power efficiency or graphical performance because there are so many hardware manufacturers working on it.

i think the reason for the overhype is its the first non apple arm chip that has the potential to compete w apple and x86

I wouldn't even recommend these computers as a casual user/web surfing computer. They're way TOO expensive for the use they are going to get. Outside of the CPU, they have specs that a gaming computer would have(e.g. 32GB of ram), but they are not good gaming computers either. These *may* be good coding computers for the amount of ram they have, but if people are running code locally, they're gonna potentially hit brick walls with the ARM cpu not being x86_64. Maybe the translator might help when it translates 32bit to ARM. Dunno and don't really care for these computers either.

If these were being used for video editing/photoshop, as much as I hate apple, I would just recommend those instead

Well i guess theyre a huge step forward compared to the first generation they launched a few years back and very quickly quietly let go again. But its still nowhere near usable for anyone looking for Laptops in the 1000+ Dollar segment. Cause thats how much these things cost. And theyve already been beaten at about anything from efficiency to performance by the amd and Intel options released shortly after snapdragon elite. Honestly even seeling these things for 500+ dollars its a bit of a stretch

Honestly X Elite Gen 1 is dead on arrival. Wait for Gen 2 and Panther Lake.

Lunar Lake, Strix point and Arrow Lake will lead 2024.

Lunar Lake will change the way people think about ARM and X86-64.

I don't get why these Snapdragon devices exist. An iPAD/Tab S9 performs better, has better battery life and supports 5G. None of these Snapdragon laptops support mobile work.
