This is why Anakin Skywalkers Force ghost looks young at the end of Return of The Jedi!
Sebastian Shaw was the original actor who played the dying Darth Vader at the end of episode 6 BUT in 2004 was replaced by George Lucas with Hayden Christensen, who plays Anakin in the Prequel trilogy!

It would have been funny if it was just Anakin burned floating in the air cause he has no legs 😂

Its also the only time we EVER get see see Anakin in the Jedi robes, as opposed to his custom dark jedi robes he predominantly wore.

I can appreciate the sentiment George was going for by bringing him back to when he was last with the light, but what it falls to convey is his growth as a person, who, after decades of suffering, was able to overcome his shackles with the power of fatherly love. The person that accomplished that was not the young man Anakin; he was the matured chosen one.

Seeing Anakin (Sebastian Shaw) redeem himself, turning to the light 🕯️ made Anakin come full circle. We finally saw the love Vader had for Luke sacrificing his life and taking the full Dark side electrical blast from the evil Emperor Darth Sidious to save his son, and then throwing Darth Sidious down the bottomless shaft. It brought tears to my eyes watching Episode 6 back in 1983 in the Movie Theaters. My favorite scene from all the SW Episodes.

Older Anakin. His ghost was like a what if Anakin grew old and stayed light.

I prefer Sebastian, because it shows that Darth Vader changed to Anakin back and he is now on the light side and he didn't die as Vader but as Light side Anakin.

Sebastian - seeing the former Darth Vader as a kind, gently smiling older man completes the arc of the original trilogy...

The biggest reason why Sebastian is better is that he is the Anakin who Luke knew, in that last shared moment when the mask was removed. Luke never saw his father in his prime (i.e. as Hayden), so he has no reason to recognize Hayden’s Anakin. It makes perfect sense for Anakin to appear to Luke in Sebastian’s form because then Luke will recognize him. All three ghosts are appearing solely for Luke’s benefit, as he’s the only one at the Ewok party who can see them, and they just want to silently let him know they’re always watching over him. Thus Sebastian is perfect for this moment. The Hayden version is more for the sake of the audience than for Luke, and this final scene is about personal closure for Luke.

Sebastian. An older man shriven of Evil and able to fondly gaze down upon his children blessed in the Light.

I definitely prefer Sebastian. Seeing is a mature/older version of Anakin is so much better. It shows that the character had come full circle. From the young problematic jedi who could never control his emotions.

He was redeemed as the old version thus the original makes sense to me. He died on the light side...otherwise he would not have been a force ghost with Obi-Wan and Yoda

Sebastian, for the sole reason that Anakin found redemption and returned to the light side just before he died. The force ghost would have its "limbs" for the sole reason of becoming whole after crossing over.

I prefer Sebastian Shaw. It's not about what Anakin was but what he could have been. Since Vader was restored to the light after ROTJ, Shaw is the appropriate decision, in my opinion.

Sebastian. I remember seeing this movie with a friend of mine back in the theaters in the '80s..😔

Yeah I prefer Sebastian, to me it felt like a wonderful closure to the Anakin story, and it shows him as the Jedi Master he would have been if he didn't slip to the dark side and most of all it shows that the soul of Anakin persisted all that time, the good in him never died and continued on to old age.

Sebastian. He is the one I grew up with. I think they just put Hayden in to help push the 1, 2, 3 movies.

Sebastian all the way! Even taking into account the reasons stated for going with young Anakin it just makes more sense for Sebastian’s Anakin because his last act in killing the emperor was done out of love and compassion for his son and thus done as the older man!

But of course I’m a gen x fan who grew up watching the original theatrical release so I admit I’m biased. While I appreciate some of the visual effects added in the special Edition many of the other changes in the whole did more to undermine the magical experience of the original trilogy.

I don’t really fault younger viewers for their preference because the Soecual Edition is their first exposure to the trilogy so they can’t truly appreciate how much imagination went into our experience of these movies as an audience. And so they can’t grasp just how having the Special Edition now being the de facto version of Star Wars just relegates our memories and experience to irrelevancy.

I know George wanted as much of a deeper connection between the first 2 trilogies as much as possible but, it made more sense to keep Sebastian Shaw because of his age.

Sebastian. It represents his now graceful looking self.

If the change was back to the even younger version of Anakin in The Phantom Menace, then I could see Yoda" saying, "Too far back, George has gone, " and Obi-Wan saying, "Another pathetic lifeform."
