The force ghost ability was one of the most powerful force feats known in the galaxy, allowing for the continuation of one's consciousness as well as great insight into the force itself.

As was revealed in Episode 3, this ability had to be learned. Qui Gon was taught how to become a force ghost by the shaman of the whills, who in turn taught it to his own apprentice Obi Wan Kenobi as well as Grand Master Yoda. Anakin of course did not receive this training as he spent many years as the feared sith lord Darth Vader up until a few moments before his death.

Additionally, Vader was one of the most evil men to ever live, while life after death was only available to those who followed the light side of the force. So this begs the question, how was a redeemed Darth Vader able to become a force ghost?

The first part of the answer pertains itself to the very nature of the force ghost ability. While it was true that this ability was only available to followers of the light, there were some exceptions. For example, those who died in an act of selflessness would be redeemed in the eyes of the force. By killing the Emperor, Vader not only saved his son from certain death but he also rid the galaxy of the sith: restoring balance to the force. In the eyes of the force, this act of selflessness redeemed the dark lord, allowing him to become Anakin Skywalker once again.

However, this still does not explain why Anakin Skywalker was able to become a force ghost while other adherents of the light did not

We receive an explanation of this in the book the rise and fall of Darth Vader.

In Anakins last moments, he shut his eyes, readying himself to embrace endless oblivion. Anakin's consciousness descended into nothingness, described only as a universe without stars. However, within the void Anakin heard a voice calling out his name. It was Obi Wan Kenobi. Anakin apologised for everything he had done but Obi Wan interrupted him, telling him he must act quickly if he ever wanted to revisit the world of the living.

Anakin asked Obi wan why he had been chosen, with the late Jedi master responding by telling him it is because he ended the horror of the Empire and brought balance to the force.

Wishing to see his children once again, Anakin accepts, with Obi Wan teaching his apprentice how to become a force ghost just before his consciousness faded into the netherworld of the force. Anakin would go on to watch the burning of Darth Vader's suit with grand master Yoda and Obi Wan Kenobi, marking the final end of Vader and a kind of rebirth in death of Anakin Skywalker.

Even as a grown man there's something about the looks Vader shoots to Palpatine when he's electrocuting Luke that just hits me. Of course, we can't see his face underneath but it's such a tangible expression. I can picture the agony and betrayal on his face as he sat, momentarily watching his son's life fade away, before finding the goodness within him to throw his life away for the greater good. Those daggers Vader shoots toward Palpatine is some of the most emotional acting I've seen without even expressing emotion through his face

Yoda held on to teach Luke and/or Leia and his job as master was finally fulfilled, Obi-Wan was at peace with knowing that his mission of protecting Luke was fulfilled…but Vader’s balance was bigger: he confronted his past and chose to sacrifice his future to save his son, bringing him full circle. he was at peace within himself, he chose death over suffering further under the emperor

How did Anakin go back in time to stop his force ghost from looking like Sebastian Shaw, to instead looking like Hayden Christensen?

I hope a force sensitive couple like Kit fisto and aayla secura got to live out there life after death because the rise of sky walker( which I don’t like I’m just referencing) reveals Aayla can talk beyond the grave which someone with improper training could do. Considering less powerful Jedi than Kit fisto like Luminara unduli and aayla secura could do it he probably could to.

My understanding from canon source is that everyone becomes one with the force. Even non-jedi. But _appearing_ to people is another mater altogether!
It seems like you need either a nexus of the force (Dagobah, that place Luke hid at), a blood relation (Anakin/Luke Skywalker and Ben/Han Solo), a master/teacher bond (Luke to Yoda and Ben Kenobi) or special training (like what Rey did). Or ideally, multiple of those factors.

Tbh I like how anakin/Vader’s death/creation connected anakin died by burning vader was created by burning and the six MOIVES were all about him as well it’s like a rhyme
