JJ Redick GETS BLASTED For Insulting Larry Bird

Has JJ Redick officially succumbed to the temptation of hot-take sports media? Well, perhaps.
Not too long ago, Redick caused a stir by saying Larry Bird shouldn’t be considered one of the greatest three-point shooters of all time. He then foolishly said there’s no difference in physicality between Bird’s era and today’s game. He doubled down on that statement a couple of days after.
“There’s plenty of people that have shot more, made more, and — guess what — made more at a higher percentage than Larry Bird from three,” Redick told Russo. “I’m not saying Larry Bird is not one of the greatest shooters ever. He’s not one of the greatest three-point shooters ever.”

Calling JJ Redick a "poor man's Danny Ainge" is a slap in the face to Danny Ainge.

Dude didn't even take his jacket off to win three point shot contest.

Just turned up and asked who was coming second.

Larry Bird is my nominee for the “NBAs Toughest SOB” award of all time. The guy played with injuries that would have sidelined guys today for months if not the season. And not only did he play, he played exceptionally well and dominated in many of those games.

To quote Reddick. "We in the media create narratives that simply don't exist in reality."

JJ Reddick is a fool. The fact that he said today’s NBA is just as physical as the NBA in the 80s and 90s is utterly ridiculous.

Players were enemies back then. Todays NBA is we all friends.

JJ, let's be clear on this: Bird didn't have the numbers. But he DAMN well made the 3s that made the difference and ended crucial games.

Larry could break apart any defense he wanted to, and any player anytime. His wide open shots are by reading defenses and because he felt like it.

I’m from Detroit. They called them the Bad Boys for a reason. Those games were brutal. It seemed like the East was worse than the west, but there were no easy layups in those days

The fact that Robert Parrish pummeled Laimbeer in the face and the refs just tell Laimbeer to get up and keep playing is nuts.

Michael Cooper was a hell of a defender, and I've always respected his game, but that respect went up 2 levels today, he understands and respects the history of the game. Props to his passion for the game.

JJ forget the 3pt line was applied in the NBA in 1979 and completely adapted in the NCAA in 1986. Players like Bird and Magic did not have the benefit of practicing the 3 when they were in college or before that. Unlike players today work on their 3 ball majority of time.

Reddick is saying that because he was a shooter specialist. All the contact he ever got was when he was running around tired and guys were holding and bumping him. But he fails to realize if the bigger players were able to actually use their strength like back then his role wouldn't even exist

Oh yeah, JJ is right. Teams like the Pistons were known for their charitable work and picking flowers before games. Bill Laimbeer 100% most lovable player during his time, known for his gentleness and hugs.

Bird gave credit to Michael Cooper for being the hardest defender he had to face, especially in the '87 finals. I'd say he knows a LOT more than Redick.

Larry walked into the locker room before the 3 point shoot out and asked whos coming in second tonight.
If JJ attempted that I’m pretty sure the locker room would laugh at him and not with him.
