Lea Salonga is a legend. She won the Tony and Olivier awards for her lead role in Miss Saigon. She was part of the original cast. She is a legend in Theatre, A Disney princess being the singing voice of Jasmine and Mulan both on original versions. Almost all Filipinos can sing so it is not uncommon that he was able to harmonise with her. Philippines is the land of great singers as David Foster has put it. They are just underrated in Western countries. For solo singers, watch legends like Regine Velasquez, Lani Misalucha, Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera etc.. For Morisette’s generation, you may wanna check Katrina Velarde, Marcelito Pomoy, Jona to name a few. For groups we have our P-pop Kings SB19 (currently topping billboard HTS) and 4th Impact (girl group). These are just a few among many.

Are you aware that she is the original singing voice for Jasmine in Aladdin? She originated the the movie version of this song along with Brad Kane. Just wanted to point that out in case you thought she was just covering.

Lea is a West End, Broadway, Disney, and international superstar.

Her rendition of On My Own from the Les Miserables 10th Anniversary is the gold standard.

Also the 25th anniversary of Les Mis, her rendition of I Dreamed a Dream.

She won numerous awards for her performance as Kim in Miss Saigon.

Lea’s voice was used as Mulan and it’s her voice in Aladdin. She also performed the main character in Broadway’s Miss Sagon… fyi

A Whole New World is a staple duet song in videoke here in the Philippines. This is the reason why the guy can harmonize well.

Lea (pronounced LAY-ah, sounds like Princess Leia from Star Wars) did the singing voice of 2 Disney princesses: Jasmine (she originated this song "A Whole New World" in the film "Aladdin") and Mulan. The lyrics she sang are definitely the correct ones. The audience member was not a plant. He didn't sing it perfectly, though he did manage to sound pretty good and harmonize most of it. I've seen a lot of videos of Lea singing this song with audience members and most of the time they sound very good. They were laughing about him being a nurse because of something Lea talked about earlier in the concert: Lea talked about the last Broadway show she was in (ONCE ON THIS ISLAND) and how her character was a nurse and how special that was because she could represent the tens of thousands of Filipino nurses all over the world. Lea has been performing since she was 7 years old. She has done theater, TV, film, albums and concerts, but first became internationally known in theater. (She was the first Filipina to win all the major theater awards when she originated the leading role in the musical MISS SAIGON in London and on Broadway.) This concert was filmed in 2019 when Lea was 48 years old.

There are many AMAZING Filipino singers to watch. Lea happens to be my favorite, though she isn't one that hits crazy high notes or riffs. If you are only interested in that, please don't bother watching Lea's videos. But if you can appreciate great singing that doesn't include vocal gymnastics, there are far better Lea videos for you to react to. I'm mentioning just a few including some duets:
--Lea singing "On My Own" from LES MISERABLES 10th Anniversary concert in 1995. (She was 24. Most consider her performance of the song the gold standard.)
--Lea singing "Still Hurting" from the musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS. This is just a rehearsal for a concert from 2013 (she was 42), but her performance is absolutely incredible.
--Lea singing a musical medley duet with Regine Velasquez. Just in case you haven't heard of Regine (yet), she is called Asia's Songbird, but also often referred to as Queen Regine because she's one of the best singers in the Philippines. Just about all singers in the Philippines from the last 30 years consider her an inspiration and many try to sound like her. Regine is 10 months older than Lea and this duet was part of an online concert Regine did in 2020 for her 50th birthday to raise money for one of her favorite charities.

--Lea singing "Movie in My Mind" from MISS SAIGON with Rachelle (pronounced just like Rachel) Ann Go. This was part of a special celebration for the 25th anniversary of MISS SAIGON. Lea was 18 when she originally opened the show in London in 1989. This concert took place after a performance of the London revival in 2014. Rachelle Ann is also a Filipina performer and Lea had encouraged her to audition for the London revival.

They were laughing with the 'nurse' bit because before that performance, Lea talked about how she dressed up as a nurse for her role in the Broadway revival of Once On This Island. She talked about how that was the best way to explain her casting in the show, because there are a lot of Filipino nurses all over the world.

Also, he is not a plant. Lea is known for getting the audience's participation when she sings this song in concert. Most fans usually practice in advance for it if they wanted to get picked.

One of her most remarkable Broadway appearances was as Eponine during the 10th anniversary run of the show. She became the definitive Eponine after that. You should react to it to know her voice more. Just search "Lea Salonga On My Own" in yt.

Also, the original lyrics to the song was "every moment red letter" and they've vhanged it now to "every moment gets better" for the new live adaptation of the movie.

She's the original singer of that song... as well as Mulan's Reflection. She is a Disney/Broadway legend. A superstar.

Lea is at the top of the food chain while morisette is just on step 1.
Yes, she randomly pick people based on a lot of her interviews.
Mulan and Jasmine's singing voice, well-respected in musical theater both Broadway and the West End... the list goes on.
If you're into pop vocals like Morisette's, you might want to react to Regine Velasquez, Katrina Velarde and so much more. You'll never run out of people to react to.

Just to reiterate, Lea Salonga is the ONLY ASIAN and the ONLY PILIPINO to win a TONY AWARD in the USA. She is the only Disney Princess...TWICE: as the singing voice
of Jasmine (Disney Aladdin movie), and the singing voice of Mulan, too. Lea was also the one responsible in recommending Morissette to see ALLAN MENKEN, the creator
of the music/lyrics of "The Whole New World" of the Alladin movie. MENKEN was in Japan with Will SMITH and Morissette flew to Japan then to meet the two guys, and she
did. She even duet with Menken with the Whole New World song. Hopefully we can hear Morissette someday as a Disney Princess like LEA Salonga. Watching from Illinois
USA: 01-08-2022....early morning here now. Good Night and Stay Safe Always TO ALL !

It is actually "every moment, red-letter" which means how significant or important every moment they spend together. I don't know when it changed to "gets better" though.

Lea always does this in her concerts. She picks someone from the audience to sing A Whole New World with her. Look her up singing “On My Own” from Les Miserable and you will see how perfectly trained she is. In the Philippines we pass the time singing Karaoke everytime it is possible. We also love the theater and that is where Lea Salonga got her formal training. When the producer of Ms Saigon was looking for talents to cast for that play, their final destination was the Philippines and everyone was so shocked by the number of talents that went to audition. I remember Andrew Lloyd Weber saying that the “Philippines is a sea of talent”. Karaoke is one of the two major past time of the Filipinos, “cockfighting” being the other one suffice to say that if you take any one of these from the Filipino people, you are probably creating a revolution.

And She's has a big name in Broadway and West-End Musical Theater play.

Try her recording and audition for the Whole new World song... It's in the recording studio in New York with Tim Rice and Alan Menkin. Try watching her Les Miserable On my Own song during theater anniversary concert. Perfect reaction of Lea '. S performance from educated theater coaches
