Even if you didn't like Eleanor, you would have to appreciate the sheer style of it all.

In the book, this scene was even better because the ladies fired the hotel manager.

Such a satisfying scene for me as an asian growing up in America

This is such a satisfying opening scene. Maybe the men didn't see all the Louis Vuitton luggage they were carrying, or maybe he thought the fur around her collar was faux. Regardless they had no idea who she was but Mrs. Young never doubted herself, and knew she and her family were exactly where they were supposed to be.

This hits close to home. My African parents were denied rental homes back in the 80s. They would talk to the landlord's on the phone but once they got there the property wouldn't be available. So many people of color go through unecessary hoops simply because of the color of their skin. This scene was a small vindication for that stuggle.

I felt like this scene (emotionally) represents all the times I had to translate for my parents and because I was a child, they thought it was okay to talk down to us or refuse us service. Very satisfying to have arrogant fools put in their places. (Though sometimes I think this behavior is also allowed or overlooked by upper management and that I think is a bigger problem. You set the tone for your employees to follow and if you hire the wrong people to manage in your absence, that's on you too).

Not only is this scene amazing because of the message but can we also appreciate the visuals, color contrast, and cinemaography? The shot of Eleanor out in the rain is very beautiful with the Long Shot and color contrast.

I think this is a great scene to show no matter how rich you are, you can still face racism as a person of color. Surely you do have privilege of being rich, but you don't suddenly become immune from racism.

The matching LV luggage set should have been a clue to the hotel staff.

A similar incident actually happened in real life,
in early 1900s, The ruler of an Indian state called Hyderabad( the richest man in the world at that point, his name was mir osman khan) went to a rolls royce showroom in London. He was kicked out by the manager as he was an indian.
This guy took it personally :D . He bought all the rolls royce cars in the showroom, imported them to india and used them as Garbage pickup trucks. Rolls Royce chairman had to give an open letter apology to this guy

My very first job was at a high end fitness centre and we were trained NEVER to judge people who enter our facility with how they look. We treat everyone with the same respect. That was really a good training I still practice to this day.
