Sorry y'all but I'll never understand how anyone can Hate someone over Skin Color💔 Many blessings to everyone🙏

The segregation was largely a forced thing through redlining. The Color of Law gives a really great view on how the current segregation occurred through the 30-50's.

5:22 - I'm amazed there hasn't been a movie made about that. Set on or shortly after the slaves were freed. That could not have been an easy transition for anyone

Moved from the south to the north myself and can definitely see what you're saying.

Also consider that, until fairly recently, white people segregated themselves by ethnicity. Pretty much every city and town had their Italian, Polish, German, Irish, Russian, etc. neighborhoods. Only recently do many of those exist only on paper (historical district designations). You were also strongly encouraged to marry within your same background.

There is another 12 years SNL skit, that one is very dark humour though, it's called 12 Years a Slave Auditions .

I watched a documentary showing that black people made more progress and were doing better in the 50 years after slavery than in the past 50 years
ie more land and business owners, record marriages, becoming elected officials etc

Washington state, specifically the PNW side is fairly diverse and becoming more so every year.
If you like verdant flora and don't mind 25-40% of the year being rain sprinkles or showers it's the best state to live in.
*Just check the cost of living first.
Edit: That's for non city areas.

I think people were scared to death both black and white. Black for obvious reasons of not only verbal abuse and physical violence but from not having what they had known for their whole lives as well like it or not their slavery gave them a type of stability which all of a sudden was no longer there ( I am not saying it was good ). White because their way of life went upside down as well and they actually had to pay their employees ( this I know today we are like boo hoo but back then it really was a massive undertaking of change) the ones who could adapt did others were swallowed up.

I see a lot of people in the comments talking about how racism and segregation exist in other places around the world, because of course they do, hate and distrust are not exclusive to a nation or race of people. But I don't think he's saying these sorts of things only happen in the US. The difference here is that these other countries didn't do these things while out of the other face, bragging about being the land of equality and freedom for all. "We have religious freedom here, (as long as your religion is some flavor or another of Christianity. If you follow, say, an indigenous religion, we're going to try to erase that as wholly as we can.) We're the land where all men are created equal, (Unless you're not of European descent, in which case all bets are off. Also, we don't mean man as in mankind, but literally just men - women are not our equals.)" So yeah, other countries did these things as well, but they weren't up their own asses about how free and equal for all they were while doing it.

Im sure that freeed slaves wanted to go north, and get as far away from the Democratic party as possible

There are plenty of countries that have bigotry, with varied levels of segregation to enforce it.

There's so many other issues that India faces or hasn't actually dealt with, these are just a few that I remember. And I know it's not all of India, I'm not trying to make the whole country look bad, like I've said it's mostly the poorer parts, but the government there doesn't enforce their own laws in these places.

China is someplace I wouldn't want to live either, it's not the people it's the government. Especially since those Uyghar Muslim concentration camps have been utilized, that's a whole other story and it's history repeating itself less than a hundred years, it's the nazi's all over again.

But wanting segregated areas seem to be across all a few people of all races.

Not exclusive to the united States. You, Sir, have pointed out how the people of Spain treated you until they discover you are an American. What about the Turks in Germany or the Africans in Italy. No, no. Other countries do this and you know it.
