In my opinion this is the moment when Solomon accepts the fact that he would forever be a slave from that point on. This is so emotional in many ways.

This scene is so strong, it portrays so well the moment when you are so tired, fed up, sad, that you just let it go, and put all you hopes in God.

He expressed about twenty different emotions in this song - sorrow, liberation,  despair... incredible.

I always heard my Grandma singing this and telling me stories about how her mom grew up in slavery, my grandma went home at age 107. R.I.P. Grandma❤
Hearing this brought tears to my eyes

0:40 This is the exact moment when you can see Solomon accept that he won't escape slavery. He just starts to think, and then just starts singing, knowing he's doomed.

This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. From the start Solomon has distinguished himself from the other slaves and has never accepted his situation. But during this song we see him accepting his situation in despair, he is as much slave as the others and in a way "giving up" on freedom. Brilliantly acted by Chiwetel Ejiofor.

I for one can say that I am white and the first thing i will teach my son or daughter is that racism will never be tolerated. We can't change the past but we can change the future, and the the future starts with me and my peers. I am of a new generation of acceptance and everything we do counts from now on. You want a better future? My brothers and sisters we must fight the urge to judge one another, let go of past resentment. The road to recovery starts now. I respect the black community and all all others because we are all human beings. The problem was never in color, but the need to put others down to feel better about ourselves. Its time media, and the world portrays the power, strength, intelligence, and beauty of all races.

This was one of the scenes that really got to me. You see the hopelessness in his face and the shock he still feels of his predicament. But then something lights up in him again but it's still so hard to watch because he's still stuck in the situation. Everyone singing together, trying to be human and upbeat! Amazing scene!

This movie was awful. And when I say awful, I mean awful to watch the gory scenes. It was good movie, like a big strong slap in the face, or a splash of icy cold water, but there were scene's that left a tear in my soul that could never be healed. It was difficult to watch. But I'm glad I did. It was an incredibly powerful movie.

I love this moment from the film because you can see Solomon fight to grieve and then to rediscover that piece of himself where music, and the ultimately humanizing experience we all feel when listening to something that touches us to the core, helps to keep him going after losing Patsy and remind himself why he is fighting so hard to stay strong... simply superb moment from Chewital

this made me smile because no matter how white people tried to break our spirits, they learned that they simply couldnt do it, and never wil be able to do it. this is why i am proud to say that im a strong black woman.

One of the most heart breaking scenes ever. So minimal, but executed to create maximum impact

Every once in a while, I come back to this, to get some weight of my chest. Not only the music is beautiful, but the scene itself, him realizing by experiencing the feeling of why they sing… gets me every time
