When kids with ADHD struggle socially it is because they have lagging social executive function skills. In this video I explain the 4 social executive function skills typically lagging in kids with ADHD, how they're different than social skills and tips for parents to help their child with ADHD improve socially. Please check out Socially Smarter, the ADHD Dude webinar series that empowers parents with strategies to help their son/daughter improve socially.

My step son just got diagnosed, because I have ADHD and I knew almost IMMEDIATELY that he had it. I wish my parents had the resources I have to help him even BETTER than they helped me. My parents deserve a war metal for raising me, and that I made it to adulthood 🤣

While I don’t have children, I’ve been struggling very intensely with social skills most of my life, but even more so recently after moving to a new state without support system/my usual people who I interacted with on a daily basis. Seeing this helped me understand that: 1. It’s not that I don’t have any social skills or can’t understand social cues, which could explain why I can do it professionally when I’m talking to my students’ parents and such, (im a mess when it comes to socializing personally 😅), 2. That there’s executive functions in socialization (whoa! That was new! Absolutely going to look into this one!) — do you happen to know any other information/tools that may be useful for adults?

Thank you so much for posting this video! I’ll probably just go marathon all of your other videos too 😂

I've wondering why my son gets SO upset when we ask "Are you being nice?" He really wants to be nice. But sometimes he just finds something like a height difference so interesting, he doesn't consider that the shorter person might get offended. He also loves bragging.

He also, like me, doesn't easily form an emotional connection. His thoughts are much more, what can I learn from this person (topic of interestest), how can they help me? This doesn't apply to his younger brothers or other little kids who he thinks are so cute.

wow a lot of what you mentioned its also mentioned in the list of Aspergers traits. How do we make sure its not aspergers or confirm its adhd?

I watch all your videos and they are so helpful. But I don't see any videos addressing what to do when kids are constantly annoying other kids, and they don't understand that they are. They don't see the problem... but there's a problem. Even if we teach "read the field"/room, they aren't getting it. Help!

I have an ADHD child who is homeschooled and struggles with social skills. How can I help him without putting him in public school that's already failed him?

my 9 yr old grandson is nasty, disrespectful in the mornings. We have set down rules in that he must be dressed before he comes down for breakfast, eat his breakfast, brush his teeth and then if there is time he may watch TV. He gives us a hard time each morning with this.

Hello, I am a special education teacher who has a student with ADHD. Do you have a video of strategies on how to teach perspective taking at the moment? I don't have him in my intervention room, so I only push in with him in his homeroom. In the classroom he doesn't get along with others by saying mran things to them and sometimes get physical with them as well. Unfortunately this mostly happens when I am not in the classroom and I end up having to talk to him after it happened since I wasn't there. I was just trying to seek help on how to implement teaching in the moment, when it is situations where I may not be there right away when it happens. I love your videos and I want to see if I can use the information with my students

Do you have a link that states that talk therapy is not helping for ADHD kids?
