The UK election has delivered a landslide win for the right-wing Conservatives, and the biggest defeat for the left-wing Labour party since 1935.
What caused it? Why has the left gone down to so many defeats recently, and what would they need to do to change it.

Both of the original men talking spoke about how they were at one time on the Left. But both started to question and broaden their views. This would seem to point that it is not all about a temperament we 'are born into' and can do nothing about but rather be about having the willingness to be open to the 'other'. In other words growing up. It is no coincidence that the very young were the ones who almost totally supported Corbyn.

I don't think the polarization will lead to extinction, more likely something will occur that is going to force factions to collaborate. Probably something fatalistic, but nothing society can't survive. Optimism? Perhaps, but extinction shouldn't be the only option on the menu.

I have no issue with saying that there is absolute truth: I just don't think it can be exhaustively known and many particulars not with absolute certainty. All ideas have a cost. We can measure the consequence and see how well the idea squares with experience and outcome. The danger of the modern left is that they are not liberal (they have no value of liberty). Socialism starts with the idea of a collective rights to resources that is separated from either opportunity or meritocracy: you have a right to an outcome that you didn't earn. They see themselves as Robin Hood but they are in fact Prince John: taking from others and giving to their own constituency. Robin was taking from the a tyrannical government to return to the people what they worked for.
