LIFE ABOARD a US NAVY NUCLEAR SUBMARINE - Full Tour USS INDIANA

Go inside and see what life is like in a US Navy Nuclear submarine: USS Indiana on a full tour guided by Commanding Officer. Interviews include the ONLY female officer and crew member. Watch me board the sub and crawl through a torpedo tube. Full walking (and crawling) tour of the sub with Commanding Officer and crew. Update: Apparently I was NOT the first person to do a torpedo tube crawl. Smarter Every Day did it a while back. Thanks to all who pointed this out. Lesson learned. When you're about to crawl into a nuclear submarine torpedo tube, don't assume no one ever filmed it on YouTube. It certainly was a first for me though and my crawl was the longest for what it's worth. Anyway, it was quite an experience.

People laugh about the XBOX controller but just think if the Navy had gone to Raytheon or General Dynamics and asked them to design a periscope controller. They would have come up with the exact same thing but it would cost $3 Million dollars.

My next door neighbor is a sub man. Quiet kind very clean and organized. Aka the perfect shipmate. I am proud to know him and feel safe knowing that there are men and women like him all over the world looking out for us. Thank you all for your service.

That soft hatch is so awesome. Seals can literally do anything and the fact that a battle sub can just deploy them anywhere in the world without anyone knowing is incredibly badass.

The captain and his crew seem like really wonderful, down to earth people. Much respect for all that they do.

Wow, what a great opportunity to tour this submarine. NO WAY I could crawl in that tube as claustrophobic as I am. Thank you to all the sailors that serve on these ships. Appreciate your sacrifice.

My nephew is in the Navy and he was stationed on a nuclear submarine until he was diagnosed with Diabetes and had to move to a regular Navy ship and then moved into teaching on the Navy base. He gets to retire this year after a 25 year career.

Thanks for sharing this. I’m an Army veteran, but my dad, uncles, and a cousin served in the Navy.
God bless these submariners! I greatly appreciate your service!! 🇺🇸

Great video. I served aboard 3 subs back in the late 70's to mid 80's, loved it, great crews and great food. Back then all enlisted had to learn how to "drive the boat" with the stern planes and bow planes as part of our quals. Now they use X Box controllers, wow. Main reason I got out was sub life can be hard on a marriage. I always make time to talk to other submariners when I see they are wearing something identifying as such. Ran into 2 different shipmates 25 and 30 years later where I live at now. Thanks to all who serve.

My uncle spend the majority of his 20 yr. Navy career on a sub. This was a great vid! Thank you for taking us along and sharing your experience.

After watching this video I appreciate even more of the sacrifices they have to go through as Navy submarine soldiers

Back in the 80s my family had a two week vacation on Oahu. We went to Pearl Harbor and my dad, who was an Air Force colonel, got permission for us to get a personal tour from the XO of a Los Angelas-class attack submarine over in the sub pens, the USS New York City. I still remember it today even though I was a kid back then. One thing I remember the XO telling us is that everyone on the ship had to pass a test where they had to wear a blacked-out hood and make their way from one end of the ship to other based solely on feel and memory of the ship layout. Idea was in the event of fire and smoke obstructing vision, you needed to know how to navigate ship without sight.

Being an Air Force Vietnam veteran I truly appreciate what the Navy offers as team members on the same side. My hats off to the submarine service, especially. Though my work was highly restrictive (security wise) these onboard sailors may do the same but in a physically restrictive close quarters manner and dependent upon the engineering and mechanics to keep them alive. Even in peacetime; I couldn’t imagine when under war conditions. For this I commend them all and offer my gratitude for their unique service. 🇺🇸

Many years ago I toured the U-505 in Chicago and as a kid I was surprised at how cramped it was. It’s still just as cramped as a WW boat. My hats off to the crews of these boats. Keep up the great work that you do for the USA. Thank you for your service, and the tour.

My time in the Navy was spent in a seaplane patrol squadron based in San Diego and the far east. The only time I was ever on a sub was a tour of the USS Clamagore, an old submarine that was moored at Patriots Point, SC. Forget about serving on a sub if you have claustrophobia. While touring the Clamagore I couldn’t wait to get off as my claustrophobia kicked in. Just watching the guy in this video crawl through a torpedo tube all the way to the end had me breathing heavy. Much respect and admiration to the guys and gals that serve on these “boats” as they’re pretty much considered close to the top of the Navy elite food chain. Well done video.

Great video. As a Navy veteran I love watching videos that showcase the Navy life. I served aboard the USS Merrill DD-976 and the USS Reid FFG-30 from 1986-1990.

So much respect for the men and women who spend MONTHS at sea to defend us on this submarine. Special thanks out to the officers who guided the people who took this video. Countless lives in your hands and you do your job day in and day out. I’m sure it’s stressful as hell.

If I were younger, I am 80 now, I have always thought that I would like to be in the navy and be on a submarine. Amazing technology and machine.
