Life at Sea: Navy Ship

Few can say they’ve hit golf balls off the back of a destroyer. But after a few weeks on a Navy ship, you’ll have done much more than that. Sailors have ice cream socials, karaoke nights, poker and basketball tournaments, play video games and even family meals. Our ships range in size from “floating cities,” like aircraft carriers which transport thousands of Sailors, to destroyers, which may carry just 300. Whether you’re working in the kitchen, the engine room, the flight deck or at the helm, it takes everyone to execute a successful mission.

I’m literally at the airport sitting around waiting for the plane to take me to boot camp and this uploads. What are the odds lol. Wish me luck

No gyms, no emails, no karaoke night, no ice cream socials. But we did have swim calls a couple of times. Got chased out of the water once by a shark.

I served 10 active years roughly give or take a few months on two different coasts on three different ships and absolutely do not regret a second of it despite the trouble i managed to get my dumbass into! I had a blast in the '80s all over the world! You can't put a price on 😎👍

Running on a treadmill in the helo hanger as the shipped rocked was challenging since it was position facing the port side. Uphill, downhill, uphill every few second. The ones in the weight room faced forward, so just staying in the middle of the treadmill was a challenge. I miss being on a cruiser... had a blast!

I've been mulling over the idea of being an officer in a military branch for a few years now, off and on. Someone who was in the Navy recommended it to me, though I didn't think life on a ship would be fun, nor am I a big fan of swimming... but lately I've come around and found this video, which seems to debunk my misperception of "getting no sunlight, trapped indoors on a ship". The Navy seems to have positions in civil engineering and certainly many with GIS and geographics... I can speak Spanish and Portuguese but I'm rusty. The US Navy really looks like an INCREDIBLE place to be, see the world, do something honorable and meaningful. I'm really struggling post-college in a career path; all jobs just sound annoying and sucky to me. If someone's going to boss me around, I want them to own it and have honor, like a superior officer would in the military. I want to be part of a workplace that is a lifestyle and sees the human dignity in those around them. I may just reach out to a Navy recruiter soon, I just don't want to do so and then shy away and have them give up on me. I just really want to be part of a culture that respects me, my skills, and my dignity.

Consider serving on the the USS Blue Ridge. Big Blue is home ported in YOKOSUKA, Japan, hits many Far East ports, and is the 7th fleet flagship. You want to travel... it's the USS Blue Ridge for sure!

I really wanna enlist in the navy and become a corpseman and travel but I have motion sickness and I don’t know if it would be smart to enlist with that ☹️. I’m gonna enlist in the army to become a combat medic but I always look back at navy videos and think what it would be like to be part of it.

Spent 7 days out at sea. Wobbly legs and anti nausea medicine are a godsend. Well the wobbly legs is kinda funny back on land. 😅
