Why I May Never Buy Another Car From Carvana - My Carvana Experience

Buying a car through Carvana was the easiest vehicle purchase I’ve ever made. Until it wasn’t. The process is simple enough, but some of the headaches may not be worth the “convenience.”

Oh that's an epic line 'Going broke can get kind of expensive'. I have a relative who bought a used car at some local dealer in Jacksonville FL with an insane high APR, likely due to weak credit. The total cost of the car by the end of the loan long, long loan was going to be so many thousands more than the 10k sale price that my mom offered to buy the car for her out right now. That interest rate would have run her and her husband dry.

I really enjoyed this honest review of Carvana. You presented it fairly (both sides) and I appreciated that. Was glad that they made most of it right with you via the warranty but you're spot on about what they don't tell/show you ahead of time. If anything, I think your strongest message that I got was to do your due diligence and check it out COMPLETELY! Finally, my husband is a truck driver so I really appreciated your comments about not taking it out on the driver. I think it's aged my husband 20 years. LOL

I laughed for 5 minutes about the raw dog handshake in 2022! That was hilarious!! I APPRECIATE the video. I'm making my first purchase from Carvana but they claim they can't deliver the automobile so I have to drive 2 hours to pick it up. Like you, this was an impulse buy, but I truly needed a 2nd 'round town because the gas is just too expensive for an SUV. I was already delayed for the sale due to the tint being over the legal limits. Carvana stated they would remove the tint since it would not pass inspection. I'm praying that is done correctly!! I will let you know how it all went afterwards if you'd like.
I will try to video as much as possible. Thanks for all the helpful info!! Raw dog handshake!!! Hysterical! 😂

I will add an experience with Carvana. I used them to sell my car. I did not want to deal with strangers coming to look at my car and the price close to $40K meant most wouldn't be able to buy it, headaches carrying to banks letting them appraise it etc. Gave Carvana a chance unseen to purchase. They offered $5K more for it than local car dealers and the price was more than I gave for it 3 1/2 years ago.
Was an absolutely seamless experience. No lien, so the driver handed with the check, I signed a few docs, and away she went.
Now, I kept checking the website to see my car and see what they listed it for. When I looked over the pictures, I saw what others have said. Car had NO dents, dings etc, but did have small amount of road rash chips. That was not shown, but a couple of paint chips that was not on the car when they picked it up was shown. Car sold in a day. For me the selling experience could not have been better, but after seeing how they should defects, I would not purchase a car from them.

I can tell you off rip from experience as a former car hauler/truck driver for carvana for 3 years. Never buy a car from them.
Most if not all vehicles bought are repos with damage. Auction cars. And used cars from people who poorly took care of their vehicles. They buy vehicles with 100, 000 miles that are 2009-2012 vehicles and sell them for triple or quadruple for a what it’s worth. Need more information or want a interview. Hit me up. I always got the scoop

I bought a Subaru Legacy through Carvana and it had been repainted also. It was literally like yours with all of the over spray, there's tape lines, paint on the passenger side headlight and the paint doesn't match in some areas and none of which was mentioned on their site before purchase. The delivery driver spoke zero english, I call Carvana and to return it and there was $1500 cash delivery fee to do so, so I had to keep it because I literally gave them what I had as a down payment, but that didn't matter anyways because the delivery driver was gone before I even got of the phone with them.

Carvana was an absolute SHITE experience for me as well. Trade in process seemed to go without a hitch - after ordering vehicle number 1 - it was delayed 4 times for delivery. The last delivery day came and they called at 9am saying we're on the way. 10 minutes later they called and said "car won't crank....battery is new so we don't know what's wrong. It'll be at least 2 more weeks". I canceled that order and found a different one. Placed the order - another 4 delayed delivery dates came and went. After the last delivery date passed, I got a phone call from the finance company that I purchased by trade in from (VW Beetle) asking if the VW had been stolen. When I said no, they informed me that it had been listed for sale via Carvana! They didn't even have possession of the trade at this point nor did they have the title. When I called Carvana I was informed that they had no knowledge of this (of course not). I then asked where my car was at this point in the shipping process and was told that it was in Naples Florida. I live in Georgia. It was coming from Arizona. I was then told that it would be in Georgia in 2 days. 2 days later I received a call stating that the delivery was AGAIN delayed - this time it was because they didn't know the physical location of the car nor did they have a way of locating it until it arrived at one of their many "processing centers". So - my Lexus which was supposedly in Florida was in fact M.I.A. It was at this point that I called my finance company on a conference call to have them ask Carvana why they had already listed my trade on their site as being for sale. They attempted to deny that they had but soon thereafter they admitted saying that it was to facilitate a faster turn around time. Maybe this is why people are having so many title / registration issues. Curious. It was at this point that I told Carvana to stuff it up their tailpipe and went to a local BMW dealer. I purchased a 2018 BMW X3 for the same asking price as a 2014 Lexus RX 350 - at 5% APR vs Carvana's 14.5% APR. No down payment vs Carvana wanting $1k down. The BMW also still had the factory warranty left as well as a 3 year BMW service and maintenance plan. I guess what I'm saying is that Carvana is crap and you can find MUCH better deals at a traditional brick and mortar dealership.

Reasonable gripe. When i bought my 2015 Outlander sport, i did a thorough check with the vin number for accidents and other concerns. No accidents and no recalls on my model. My experience with Carvana was not bad. I didnt have a strong option to shop because my car was out of service and my I worried about my fair credit forcing me to up more money for down payment to get a low monthly payment, with 11% interest rate. However nothing beats in person shopping. You wouldve saw all you saw and made a decision then and there to negotiate and not be thrown off guard. When i pay this car off and decided to get another one, without the worry of needing a car asap, yeah i would go in person.

You can swap the car 2 times. The second car gets the 7 day test drive, but the 3rd car is as is. So honestly, if you swap once and don't like it, just return it.

I see a lot of mixed reviews with older cars with more history from carvana and I just bought a 2022 car from them, so heres to hoping I get a positive experience. Worse case, similar to you, I will just use their failsafes.

I’ve bought 2 cars from Carvana in Tempe az within the last 7 years BOTH times my cars had undisclosed damage. They only fixed the first cars’ damages which was back in 2018. When I bought the second car Dec 2023 to replace the first one, I disclosed damages at pick up and filed the claim within the timeframe I was denied and stuck with the car. Their interest rates are also insanely high compared to what I got approved with from CarMax. Just purchased a third car a few days ago from CarMax.

CarMax was way more flexible and willing to fix some minor stuff on my car that wasn’t disclosed but honestly I was able to just do it myself.

Never ever buy a car from Carvana 😅

Bought a 2015 Toyota Venza XLE (3.5L V6) with 39k for $22.7k from Carvana a month ago. Car was immaculate, and looks and runs like new. No squeaks, no blemishes, and car drives as quiet and smooth as a dream. I love this car! With tax, title, registration, and delivery ($500) the total came to around $26k. I had to pay delivery because the only available low-mileage Venzas were out of state. I traded in my 2013 Venza with 90k for $17.5k which I thought was quite reasonable. Getting the registration (plates) and title was a hassle due to Carvana's glitchy software. For example, we had to submit the insurance docs 3 times, the phone rep (from India apparently) seemed as confused as I was. The software repeatedly confirmed receipt of the insurance docs only to claim I needed to upload same in the next step of the process. Finally got everything straightened out (after hours on the phone). The registration arrived in about 2 weeks and the title arrived in a month after purchase. All in all I am happy with this purchase and would consider going with Carvana in the future.

Thank you for this video. I may be buying a Honda CR-V from my local Carvana, and if I do, I'll be paying cash and picking it up myself. No delivery or financing for me. But I'll be sure to inspect the car for hidden damage just as you did with yours.

I always wondered how Carvana was, I found your channel off the Terminix videos because I’m actually in the process for a Pest Control Position. Keep up the reviews man. Need more brutal honesty in the world when it comes to these big head companies.

I know I'm a year late in seeing your video bud, but I appreciate your honesty and thorough review. I do have a delivery set for this Friday. So, watching this lets me know what to expect and how to handle existing damage. Thank you, man. You do well at this review thing! I'm hopeful that my experience is decent. I'm anxious. lol

With me, I was going to purchase a 2013 Chevy Camaro from Carvana. It was in three counties over from me here in California. They were gonna ship it to me for free but they couldn’t get me decent financing and they were saying I was gonna have to put a very sizable down payment even though my credit score is over 800 so I just decided not to purchase the vehicle.

Bought two Toyotas from Carvana. Mine came as advertised and I'm 100% happy. I hope Carvana survives or another similar style company comes around to replace them. I will never walk into another dealership again. I'd rather pay extra to avoid all that scamming that comes from buying from a dealership. Btw, get your own financing because Carvanas finance rate is way too high.

Thank you for this video! I was thinking of skipping the dealership and getting my teens a car from Carvana. I often wondered about the inspections and how true they are. Sometimes I’ll go to dealership websites and view cars, once I go see the car, there are more cosmetic damages than advertised -whether it is due to the light, or view of the car. I’ll stick to what I know and go buy in person. The consequence of that is being harassed by salespeople and the walk of shame (God forbid). Best of luck and I hope you’re enjoying the Flex now!

They sublet the "Paint Job" to Uncle Billy Bob's Paint & Auto Body Center that operates out of a barn??? They just blew primer everywhere. Thank you for this video. I was considering looking into Carvana.
