Why I MAY never buy another guitar online!

Almost 100% of my online shopping experiences have been positive.
This is one case where some kind of weird s#@& happened.

It ended up ok in the end, but I thought I would share the store. :)

Would I buy another guitar online? Never say Never ;)

Happy birthday dude! Buying guitars online is no problem, just don't buy from sketchy third-party Amazon or eBay sellers, you got terribly unlucky haha. I do a lot of shipping back and forth with Sam Ash for my videos and I haven't had anything come damaged yet *knocks on wood*. I like the bass you ended up with better anyways.

A better retailer would have taken the Fender box and packed it into a larger box with lots of bubble wrap, packing paper etc.
I just bought a new SG from Sweetwater and the Gibson case was inside a Gibson box that was then inside a bigger Sweetwater box. There was no chance of damage.
Shipping just the Fender box was a poor choice

Some online retailers place guitars in the manufacturer's original carton inside their own cartons, thus double-boxing the shipment. I find the larger online retailers do a great job of servicing orders, and I've had no trouble with shipments from any of the large and reputable dealers. Not to mention getting free candy ;-)

I quit buying online long time ago. All the stuff ive bought over the years I noticed that what I bought in person, you couldn't pry out of my hands and the stuff I bought online I would play for a week or two and sell it on reverb. The only problem is that brick and mortar stores never carry anything cool or unusual. I have a store by me that sells used stuff cheap, always gets oddball stuff and all the people in the know shop here, locally. I actually met and picked a few tunes with an old timer who actually worked at the Kalamazoo Gibson plant. I don't buy guitars or amps online anymore. You need that bonding moment with gear when you first see it to love it. Its like the difference between dating and going online to take care of it yourself, pardon my language.

The fact that this store shipped the guitar just in the factory box is a reason to never buy from them again. I bought a guitar from www.thomann.de in Germany and it shipped to Australia with the factory box packed inside another larger Thomann box with every square inch of loose space packed with giant bubble wrap. There was like 30 feet of the stuff in there. Needless to say it made the around the world journey without even a dent in the outer box.

I actually ordered the Squier SS Jaguar bass shown in this video straight from Fender. My box was slightly dinged up too, but the 1 sheet of foam that they use to wrap the guitar with luckily kept it safe. There was a huge scratch on the pickguard(which shows really easily because the pickguard is black.), but it turns out the scratch was only on the plastic sheet covering it. It's a great bass, and even though the shipping was kind of crappy, you can't really blame that on Fender. For all we know, it could just be my mailman.

Was it FedEx? We're having that problem with them. And every box seems to have a hole.

You got the better bass. The 77 is really solid.

I have been buying guitars online because they were really good deals but have been very lucky so far (knocks on wood). I do need to check out the local stores more often to see what they may have.

Definately must keep it in mind. Only big things I've got online are a couple of guitar kits. 1st had a couple of parts missing which they sent after I emailed them. The 2nd I just ordered over the weekend so still waiting. On another note reminds me of Steves music, haven't been in there in years. Used to hit that section of queen street a lot from the late 80s onwards but not so much I'm outside of toronto. Of course now aside from Steves n Moog audio all the places I used to visit are either closed or moved.

Bought two from MF no problem. One from SW no damage but their 21 point inspection is a marketing gimmick

Well I recently decided to order a Harley Benton from Thomann, after hearing a lot of good stuff about that guitar in particular.
And the first one arrived with a HUGE crack on the fretboard, and a lot of other smaller cracks.
The replacement came yesterday and it was just as bad, it not worse..

So I won't be buying any of those of course. But I'm not too scared of getting one online just because of this.
But I've heard and seen boxes like the one you showed here, and I would be pretty mad if that happened to something I ordered.
