If I buy a Mustang, I can upgrade the performance. IT'S MY CAR. I JUST LOSE THE WARRANTY. Why can't people upgrade their Teslas on their own? Now, there was a similar case like this for phones. Companies were preventing people from modifying their phones, and also like Apple trying to prevent people from fixing phones. I came recall the exact specifics, but the court rules that once the phone was bought and paid for, the owners can do what they want with them. I imagine that could be used as a case study for anyone that wants to take Tesla to court.

Years ago it was possible to buy performance chips for some cars and motorcycles, so it’s not a completely new idea. Manufacturers would warn about voiding the warranty. The answer was to reinstall the OEM chip, in the rare event you had a warranty issue. Now with connected cars, the manufacturers can see what you are doing while the car is in your hands. Also, Deere tractors had an issue several years ago about blocking software repairs and updates, meaning some farmers could not repair their own tractors. So the issue here is how much control should manufacturers have to block modifications, or repairs.

This is nonsense. With a normal petrol car you can go ahead and mod that as you wish without the company stopping you(may void warranty), till the point its road legal, at which point the cops get involved. If you pay for the car you should be allowed to do what you want with it ! Mod it all you like .

This is old few months. And it’s good, jailbreak forced Apple to unlock or add new features for free, so should Tesla. If you buy a car you own it along with software on it, not Tesla! Tesla has no right to disable features they sold. Especially for used car!

Owning a Tesla seems so stressful to me. The whole owning a Tesla car feels more like you are paying the company to use their car. If this is how all EV’s will be, I’ll be more than happy sticking to gas powered engines for the rest of my life.

I tuned my car, plug it in to a laptop and add ~130 HP. Voids the warranty, but it's part of "gear head" culture, at least here in America

It's like with phones; you can jailbreak at your own risk. And if tesla says that modifying the vehicle voids the warranty nothing stops you from doing the mods, just know what are you getting into.
