TESLA AUTOPILOT REACTS IN CRASH

This Tesla owner was driving with Tesla Autopilot, engaged on Deerfoot Trail in Canada. As traffic slowed down, autopilot slowed down as well. Unfortunately, the Chevy van behind him failed to slow down in time and hit his Tesla at full  speed.  He heard a warning from autopilot before the impact. Autopilot also prevented his car from hitting the car in front of him or from leaving the lane.

He says he's lucky to have a Tesla because this accident could have been much worse.

I know it’s because he was slowing down… but it looks like the car sped up to crash into him

Hey professional driver here. Yes a real one, certified.
They tell you in most training courses, whether you are in a large or small vehicle. Turn on your hazards when traffic slows. If a aggressive driver is behind you, get out of the lane. Sometimes people zone out and don't notice the red tail lights. But a hazard will kick their attention back into gear.

Just a safety tip, saved me from a few bad accidents.

Signs of a dying society “he’s lucky to have a Tesla” and not “he’s lucky to be alive” lmao

When traffic slows down engage the hazard lights for the others behind you to notice.
It's common practice in Germany

"It could have been worse, thank God I got a Telsa!"

"My marriage could have been so much worse, if I didn't have a tesla!"

"I wouldn't have lost all my friends, if I didn't have my telsa!"

-- okay, look seriously, the guy behind the telsa zoned out and caused the bump. But seriously? This would be no different in literally any other vechile.

Tesla driver accidentally climbs a curb. Tesla driver: Thank God I was driving a Tesla, if not I would have ended up in the hospital.

Let's see how lucky he feels while trying to get the repairs done.

15 years as a driving instructor. This collision was 100% avoidable if the Tesla driver had been *driving*. There was plenty of room in front and to the left (shoulder) to use as soon as they saw the vehicle behind was not also slowing (foot to brake = eye to mirror).
Autopilot didn't leave enough following distance in the first place, and braked too quickly in response to cars ahead slowing.
Garbage.

Tbh, when driving Teslas, feel like the taillights activates too late and I’m always afraid that the car behind me doesn’t notice that I’m slowing down because the taillights haven’t activated yet.

I got rear ended the first time when I was 16 leaving school on a blind corner. Dude was texting on his phone and speeding to impress girls he was with and hits me and my girl because a bus was stopped letting kids get off. I’ve only been rear ended once since then and it was just a Prius but ever since then it’s been a huge fear of mine because you can’t see it coming. First crash my girl saw the jeep in the window and said he was getting close right before he smacked us but if I was alone I’d never have been prepared. Every time I’m driving and someone slams on their brakes in front of me for whatever reason I’m glued to my rear view window making sure I don’t get smoked. I was diagnosed with ptsd recently and I swear driving is in the top 3 reasons why but it’s still one of my favorite things to do lmao.

I think there's a dash cam video of this accident from the vehicle that rear ended the Matchbox car it stopped automatically but didn't have brake lights the other video stated that's why the van did not know it was stopping

One thing I notice that’s very dangerous with teslas is the brake lights don’t always turn on. This only happens when the regenerative braking is on
