How to Play Softball | Softball Lessons

I'm Erin Goettlicher, and I'm a professional softball coach. After I played through high school, I went out and played for college level, and then spent a cup of tea at the professional level. I'm self-employed, and own Pro Softball Training. Pro Softball Training offers instruction in all kinds of softball. You name it, we can do it. Today, I will be talking to you about softball.There are several different types of softball being played today. Most commonly is fast-pitch softball and slow-pitch softball. Fast-pitch softball is played both at men's and women's level, all the way from youth to adult. Slow-pitch is typically played at the adult level and recreationally, but there is also some slow-pitch played at the professional level as well. Softball's made up of two teams, nine to twelve players and the object of the game is to score more runs than the other team, by advancing runners around the bases. There are typically nine players on a softball field. A pitcher, a catcher, four infielders and three outfielders. In many slow-pitch leagues, especially at the coed or women's game it is played with four outfielders. Each position in softball, has its own special set of skills. Catchers have to be quick, but they also have to be willing to get down and dirty and take some bruises once in a while. First basemen and third basemen, they have to have quick reactions. They're typically closer to the batter, which means the ball comes off that bat, pretty darn quick to them. Your middle infielders are typically very mobile. They have great range, they're able to get from left or right and cover a lot of ground. They're also very good with their hands, which means they can get the ball out of their glove and make good throws. Your outfielders need to have good speed and the ability to read the ball off of the bat. They need to be able to tell if that ball's gonna be hit deep, short and if it's going to be spinning in one direction or the other. The great thing about softball is that it can be played at all ages and levels. Many times when athletes finish playing at the fast-pitch level, they move on to the recreation level and they play slow-pitch, which can be played for many years, all the way to the senior age levels. Playing softball is a great time because it is a team sport, which allows you to have some adult time with friends and teammates. |

So I have only played softball literally 5 times a year ago and now I want to join softball but I’m scared because it’s been forever. I’m terrified to try out because I’m scared of people staring at me honestly. I might join next year for my sophomore year
