Calibre-Based Destruction: Bullet Holes - Rainbow Six | Siege

The new Calibre-based destruction mechanic adds a nice touch of detail to Rainbow Six | Siege. This video is part 1 of a two part series in which I will be analysing this new mechanic in terms of the hole size created by each weapon compared to their calibre.

Hey, I just wanted to say I think you're an awesome youtuber and I love your Siege content. Especially anything helping players learn the game or average players get better.

You're awesome, don't forget that. Also your voice is just absolutely pleasant to listen to.

You fell for the ole "pistol rounds are weaker than intermediate rifle rounds, so they make smaller holes".
The bullet diameter is 9mm, so they should make a 9mm hole.
5.56 / .223 is nearly half as wide, so the holes they make should be equivalently smaller.

I wish they would add more variety to the shotgun ammo, maybe as a loadout.
It would be interesting to see a double barreled shotgun in game but I know it's very unlikely.

tbh the 9mm should do bigger holes than the 5.56 and the 5.56 should do the same holes as the 5.7 but i guess games can't be that realistic.

Just saying but some guns ... in real life have option to change calibers... i think i would be cool if r6 introduces something like that.

Ak12 could fire 7.62x39mm and in game one could be based on that .

Doesn't the smg-11, which's real life counter part is the Mac-11, shoot the .380 acp and not the .45 acp which is actually used by its older counterpart the mac-10?

A shotgun's barrel length heavily effects it's spread. So maybe that's why different shotguns get different holes. The MASS having the shortest barrel and making the largest whole being a great example.

Plus an increased spread/shorter barrel is increases recoil (at least in real life). So it may makes sense for semi-auto shotguns (a weapon built to fire consecutively) make smaller wholes as well.

Great video though, really enjoyed it.

Gotta say, I love the scientific style and posh British accent with accompanying understatement. One quip though.
The M-11 is a 9mm smg whereas the m-10 is actually in .45 so in my opinion it's caliber destruction does match its true caliber more or less closely.

I appreciate the Airborne cannons guide very much thank you for breaking it down!

8:35 - Rogue, I think the MP5 SD is in that category to represent its slower bullet velocity. You see, if a bullet flies through the air too fast and with too much energy, it will pass most surfaces clean through, while maintaining most of its energy, while slower bullets will deal more damage (Not in-game, like, real-life, physical damage). Hence why Caveira's bullets (subsonic bullets with a special silencer) and the MP5 SD's bullets deal more damage than their "usual" counterparts. I can safely say that for wood, but since I don't have the game, I don't know how other hard surfaces react when shot at. Anyway, hope I could get to clarify some of that.
Cheers, mate, and keep on being awesome and making quality content. <3

Interesting note about the mp7 and p90, they both use incredibly small and high velocity rounds that are designed to rip through armor and surfaces. It almost makes sense why they want them to make larger holes, almost. Alongside that, the mp5 sd fires at a lower velocity making a larger hole because it smashes through the sheetrock/wood instead of punching through. The reason for this is that they put rounds with lower amounts of powder to lower velocity. They load this ammo because irl the supersonic crack that a bullet makes is loud, so loud that subsonic ammo is needed to make the supressor effective (side note: this also explains why supressors reduce damage, youre swapping your ammo out for a lower velocity load)

It's nice hearing a Brit that actually knows his guns/calibers, great job.

hey there ! talking about the shotguns, it could make sense in the case of the pump action because they could be loaded with slighly larger buckshot and larger cartridge since the manual operation allow them to operate cartridgeswith a much higher pressure than the semi-auto could handle.

The reason behind the MP5 SD ad the Lusion is the they are using suppressors, suppressors in real lfie decrease bullet velocity therefore bullets have less penetrating power. In ballistics this means that they will give off much larger percent of their energy on the first obstacle they hit. ( a rough example: a bullet with 1kJ energy will penetrate the first wall giving off 60% of its energy and will stop in the second wall giving off the rest 40%, a 0.7kJ bullet will lose 100% energy in the first wall) You can find lots of videos showing this effect, best tests are done using clay blocks.

You're one of the best content creators I've ever seen. The amount of time this took is probably ridiculous. Amazing videos man keep up the good work
