Very good Matt, good to see some detail about the tow bar rating or lack of.

I bent a pin snatching a mates 4t gu up a hill couple years back, we even bent the rated d shackle. I always use snatch block these days and I'm still shocked how we bent the shackle

Pin quality varies, can one simply use a high strength nut and bolt in place of the pin in the receiver? I usually do this in place of pins when towing.

Thanks for this! If you have a stock 4wd and you’re either trying to help someone or are stuck yourself, is there any front point to attach to, or is it just the tow pack?

My 2021 4Runner has big ass beefy thick steel welded front and back to the chassis in front. That ain’t for tying down to a truck! 😎

Another well done and informative video. Thanks Matt! I do have one question, I just finished reading an excellent book. It was called, " off road manual" by Cobbley and Phillips. The book was written with the Land Rover in mind and these gentlemen are from the UK. With that said the book was well written with regard to all different types of four wheeling, how to drive in different types of terrain and also proper recoveries. On one of the pages though they specifically mention and show using the tow ball in certain recovery situations. These gentlemen are experts in their field and I don't understand why they would recommend that. Please advise if you have any opinions on this or maybe you know these gentlemen.

Here in the uk the square tow hitches are very uncommon, we have a tow bar with a flat metal sheet that you bolt on a tow ball via 4 bolts, you can buy a square tow hitch to bolt on in place of a tow ball but would that be safe to recover from? I worry that 4 bolts will not be enough

Great info - the music does not add anything.
