THE BODILY ASSUMPTION OF MARY: REFUTING GAVIN ORTLUND

In this video I go point by point refuting Protestant scholar Dr. Gavin Ortlund on the Bodily Assumption of Saint Mary. We deal with each and every objection including the common ones that claim this tradition originated in heterodox fables, the claim that Epiphanius didn’t know about Holy Mary’s end, the Eastern Churches, Revelation 12, and much much more! Below is my debate on The Bodily Assumption that took place on Pints with Aquinas! Give it a look and SMASH the THUMBS up and SHARE!

Hey, don’t forget to check out our book on Holy Mary as well!

The piety of the faithful recoils at the blasphemy of believing that Holy Mary could be rotting in a tomb, or even lying incorrupt on a par with St Bernadette.

Very edified, protestants claims (this being the one of them) that these are new doctrines, yet as you said: their views moving far away from apostolic teaching. Thank you brother and God bless ✝️🙏🏻

Excellent points. These topics need to be defended. We lose a lot of Catholics to confusion of Marian topics. She would never want to be a stumbling block to her Son.

Excellent job William. Ultimatelly Dr. Ortlund just picks and choses what is convenient for his narrative, just as I pointed out he does the same with Jan Hus.
Our mother ever Virgin Mary, who was assumed to heaven, intercede for us.

Powerful and I'm convinced, Mary was assumed bodily and the church across nations rejoiced in this!

It's funny how he goes on about the historical written evidence, but when he gets it, (Baptismal regeneration, etc..) it does not change his position, and just explains it away?!

Hey William, your kid is a clever little cutie. Looks like he’s learning the Apostolic Faith early! High five for being Catholic!

Hallelujah! William, I wonder if you remember me but you responded to my comment in your video refuting Gavin Ortlund's video of Augustine believing in Sola Scriptura. I told you that your way of refuting people seems to be rude and off-putting to many people from Protestants to Catholics. I am so happy and believe God has blessed you and is guiding you as I can see you have changed your approach to refuting non-Catholics. The way you started out in this video is a breath of fresh air and I can see your passion, charity, and humility! I have not watched this video but I will finish watching this video and more videos that you have made and will make in the near future! May God bless you and guide you. P.S May God guide and bless us all!

Thank you brother William this was a great refutation and I learn a lot in defending our blessed Mother. I have now a go-to resource whenever I want to share with my Protestant friends.

All you need to do is look at the Lectionary for the Assumption, and compare Luke 1 to 2 Samuel 6, even the psalm used for the feast is relevant to the Assumption

I am wondering how would Dr. Ortlund explain that the non-chalcedonians also venerate the assumption of our mother and the most holy Virgin Mary. Just take a look at the pictures of the procession that took place in Durunka, Assiut in 2018 (article´s title: Coptic Egyptians Celebrated the Assumption of The Virgin Mary), where hundreds or thousands of people (Copts and Orthodox Ethiopians) gathered to celebrate this feast. How can Dr. Ortlund ignore this? If the oriental orthodox churches schismd in mid 5th century, this means this tradition is much much older, since it is impossible that after the schism they would adopt something from the catholic church. And this is true for other doctrines as well, like the Eucharist. Howcome we do not see a single church father, a single council or anybody or anything protesting that this is idoltary. Why this striking silence?

Thanks so much for this. Between you and Trent Horn, you left nothing of Dr. Ortland's argument intact.

Hey William! You mentioned a book that is coming out in Spanish on the Assumption. What is the title of it? As a Spanish scholar, I'd be very interested in reading it.
