Remember, the MP is 16 months old (a prop, ESC, and color change doesn't really negate that) and is being compared to a brand new drone. To put it in perspective, it's like comparing the last generation A6 to this generation's A4. Obviously the newer, lower-end model is going to seem nicer, but it's ultimately still a lower-end model that will become evident when the new generation model is released, and is much nicer than the lower-level model.
Ultimately, it's in your best interest to wait for the Mavic Pro 2 if you're looking at the higher-end Mavic Pro. If you just want a compact drone, then the Mavic Air may still be the one for you.

I want to throw a funny little reference story into the mix.
Several years back, I looked into the option of buying a quadcopter that was strong enough to carry my camera into the air.
By the way, this may have been before DJI even existed.
I came across a company here in Canada who made the exact product I was looking for.
After looking thru their website I was totally impressed, so I sent them an email to ask how much their quads cost.
They replied back
The base price for one of their "drones" was $35, 000.
So I kinda gasped and gave up on that idea very quickly.
It would be cheaper to rent a full sized helicopter for a few hours.

So here it is, 2018.
Not only has the technology vastly improved, but the price of quadcopters has dropped so that an average person can own one.
Can you imagine if the same price reduction happened in the auto industry?

In my opinion the mavic pro plat is better ( for my use ) better rc, better flytime, better range, and the camera in my opinion gives a more " cinematogtaphic " result

Good objective review. I have the Spark and MPP and won't be buying anything else new this year, but I'm amused at the passion around which is "better." It's like the Apple vs PC battles of the past and the iOS vs Android battles. A phrase used in photography also applies to drones, i.e., "it's not the gun, it's the gunner." I see you ride bikes and another one comes to mind, i.e., "I'd rather ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow." It's not what you have, that counts, it's what you do with it.

The Air runs at 100Mbps while the platinum is only 60Mbps bitrate, the image does look slightly better in your video on the air, therefore why did you say choose the platinum, doesn’t make any

For me the platinum was the clear choice as I demand farthest range, quietest sound, longest battery life and also OcuSync link for my Dji goggles. However, as you stated that’s because those things are important to me. For someone else, price, size, bitrate, and extra sensors might be the important things. Both great drones, but I don’t think Dji knows how to make bad drones anyways!

I have the Spark and I will not but the Mavic Air for two reason: the wifi (I prefer the "magic" of the Mavic Pro) and the Waypoints. So I will wait for the MP 2. If I need a better drone inmediaply, I will buy the MP platinum.

Thank you for the comparison! This is the video I was waiting for! I will diffidently be waiting on the Mavic Pro 2! The Mavic air seems like a great product but I already own the Spark and Mavic Pro. It just wouldn't make sense to buy the Mavic Air if the Mavic Pro 2 is around the corner! Well if the rumors are actually true.

Hey awesome video. I just sold my phantom 4 and was really on the fence about the air or mavic pro. Ended up getting the refurbished mavic pro directly from dji for the same price as the air. Just needed to downsize! I hope the mavic will be as rock solid as my phantom was. Keep up the great work and cheers from Alberta!

Here's a scenario where price is not a factor. Lets say both costed a similar price. Which one would be better?

The air has a much better range of color. The auto-everything-focus is nice. Back sensors are great. Flight time is meh. Range is meh. Ultimately I would take the Air over the Platinum, but with enough pennies saved up, definitely get the Pro 2. Air is geared towards vloggers, where the pro will be more suited to a person with the commercial use certification that sells his footage.
