I love how this short scene, while serving the plot, establishes who defined the relationship is between Tarkin and Vader.
Neither is really subordinate to the other. They are on equal footing, and have mutual respect.
And seeing how Vader had very little respect for anyone, makes his attitude around Tarkin all the more impressive.

This man singlehandedly reduced the crime rate of Alderaan to zero.

I love how this scene shows that Tarkin definitely knows that Vader is Anakin because he knew his old master was Obi-Wan

“Obi-Wan Kenobi, how can you be so sure?”
“Walked by him in the hallway”

"Obi Wan _is_ here. The force is with him"

I love that line. He is basically saying that Obi Wan is here and he is stronger than ever

-"The Jedi are extinct, their fire has gone out of the Universe. You my friend all this left of their religion"...What a powerful lines in this short scene! Love it!

It's clear here that Vader and Tarkin respected each other. I mean Tarkin literally calls him "my friend", the name by which no one, barring the emperor (although Emperor was manipulating him) ever called Vader!

Poor Vader. You can tell that he really wishes he had someone to talk to about the Force — that’s why he’s always bringing it up at the most random times. Too bad he helped kill off most of the Jedi and the ones that still live are terrified of him.

Tarkin laughs off Obi Wan like he's no threat and Vader is like yeah he is a serious threat dude

This accent. That's a very particular british accent that I have heard before. Old fashioned and found in the south only. Where does it come from exactly

I love how they referred to the force and the jedi as a religion. They totally forgot that in later films.

Grand Moff tarkin knows that darth Vader is anakin skywalker

The reason why he said “you my friend are all that’s left of their religion” is because he was one of the few people that knew Vaders true identity as an Ex-Jedi and where his roots lie in.

Peter Cushing was such a good actor. Made Tarkin a legendary character and the archetypal "corrupted military-politician bad guy" for the ages in just a couple of minutes of actual screentime. He was born for that role as much as he was born to be Doktor Frankenstein and Van Helsing. I'm glad his legend lives on in the spin-offs like Rogue One and Bad Batch so long after his passing.

I watch one small scene and I’m instantly absorbed by Star Wars again.

You see he was willing to admit that his belief was wrong, this right here is a great boss. Someone give this man a star.

Tarkin should have been featured more prominently in the prequels. It really feels like he and vadar have some history that is not really explored.

This scene makes me remember how many enemies Obi-Wan has throughout his life; TC-14, Rune Haako, Poggle The Lesser, Nute Gunray, Maul, Dooku, Grievous, Savage Oppress, Pre Vizsla, Ventress (formerly), Jango Fett, Jabba the Hutt, Aurra Sing, Boba Fett, Cad Bane, Tarkin, Vader, Sidious.

Moral of the story; Obi-Wan went out with the legacy of having a lot of enemies and trolling a vast number of them.

Tarkin: "Surely he must be dead by now"
Vader: "Imma beat his ass with a thousand rocks after he kicked my ass last time"

Oh so he definitely knew Vader was Anakin.
