Honestly, Tom just doesn't come across grumpy enough, but I am a fan so I'll probably watch it, although the Swedish version is a terrific movie and that actor (Rolf Lassgard) pulled off the grumpy old man perfectly.

The trailer to the Swedish original showed a dark comedy about suicidal grumpy old man finding meaning in life after the death of his wife and child

The American trailer looks like a family comedy about a grumpy old man

I really hope they have the parts with him growing up in this western version, wasn't a single piece of it in the trailer so hope they save it for the movie.

The original was fantastic, but Tom is a great actor so hopefully he can do it justice.

The book was so powerful, because they included the fact that every time he was trying to commit suicide, someone was knocking on his door for something! I think the book was so powerful BECAUSE of the contrast between what his life had become, without his loving wife, and what affect the new neighbors had in his life. I hope they include some of that melancholy, so the audience can see how this family really ‘saved’ him from himself.

I literally can't think of a better actor to portray the American version of Ove / Otto. I loved the Swedish movie with Rolf Lassgård. Hanks is the perfect match talent-wise.. From the trailer it seems they've toned Otto's inner hatred and bitterness down a notch or two? I guess that's to suit the American viewers? Anyway - this story and these actors ensures the experience will be more than rich. We're in for a treat ❤

I strongly suggest that you watch the original instead, this version failed to make the character justice.

As a Pittsburgh native and huge Tom Hanks fan, it actually feels like Christmas that he’s playing the lead of my favorite book!!

I can see Jack Lemmon or Walter Matthau in this role. Grumpy old man.

Why must America always always do remakes of good foreign movies? All the Hollywood movies are the same and watching s foreign movie once in a while should feel quite refreshing. Is it difficult to read subtitles?

I'm excited but this just seems like a straight out US version of the Swedish one.
