The look he gave her when she asked him if he wanted another foot of rope is priceless! 😅 Another foot of rope would be six feet and that's not what he wanted in the first place.

I worked at a hardware store for 3 years through and out of highschool. I dealt with people like this many times, you kinda end up just feeling bad for them because they don’t have anyone else to complain to. That or their life REALLY sucks.

This was a good movie right here. Tom Hanks did a great job of playing a grumpy old man in this movie. At 1:41, I would've like 'sir, just pay for the damn rope and go.' That's just me!

As a consumer, I agree with his point, but I also wouldn't take it out on the lowest positioned employee. If I were him, I'd just go back and get 2 yards, and if I cared enough, I'd call their corporate number to tell them they have a dumb policy. On the flip side, if I was the cashier, I'd just do a price override cause it's very simple. That's just what I'd do, though, cause I don't like confrontation.

I can oddly relate to Otto. I once went to my local hardware store to get 20 inches of chain and they told me they only charge by the foot. I wound up buying the 4 feet but because it makes no sense to me that I should have to pay for 4 feet of chain if I don’t need it! It’s stupid!

I went into a big box depot store, they had a huge pallet, stacked 3-4 feet high with wood. A gentleman came over and picked a small oak plank off the top and asked a clerk who said, 'the pallet is sold as a lot' He put the piece back and walked away. This was all cutoffs, pine, oak, , plywood, everything. I asked the price and the clerk says $2.01. I took the whole lot via forklift into my truck.
