Yeah but no one talks about how you gotta pay for promotion, playlisting and allat. Everybody makes money off the independent artist and we get left with nothing really.

Forget that crap, forget making a living off of it. Think about it as a cool fun side gig. If you register with BMI or a similar company, you can make pretty decent money off of virtually no views on any particular platform. I didn’t know this until it happened. I release songs on like 1000 different platforms and get maybe 50 to 100 streams per platform. it adds up to sometimes hundreds of thousands of streams per song between all platforms. Considering it’s just a hobby, it pays for itself and then some. I think of it like fishing. If every time you caught a fish you made enough money to both pay for the bait you just bought, and bait for the next fishing trip, why wouldn’t you want that? people think too big picture with this stuff. Music is the only hobby I’ve ever had that actually paid for itself. Like how cool is that and it doesn’t even take that much work. I have to do is have fun and then release the music with zero marketing whatsoever because it’s not even about that. I just like making music.

That all sounds cool in theory. However; in the real world 10.5 million artists out of 11 million artists on Spotify DO LESS THAN 1, 000 STREAMS PER MONTH!!!

The money isnt in streams please stop spreading misinformation the money is in collaboration, tours/performances and merch/endorsements u will never grow ur pockets as an artist if you rely on streams streams is a metric for analysis on what demographic to market toward and sell to. Music is art but art is common now adays to make it in the industry everything you do aside from putting your heart into your music is strictly bussiness and should be ran accordingly

Right now I have around 199, 000 plays on my song 13, 000 coming from apple music and the rest from Spotify the majority like 65% coming from Brazil by ad supporters but still haven't been paid, how much is that give or take?

Yeah but how do people know about the artist. So my song doesn't just sit there for years. Tell me about song exploitation or globalization. Thanx

Hello, I have a subscription to Apple Music and occasionally buy songs on iTunes to support them. The purchased songs are automatically saved in the Apple Music app. My question: Do my streams with the music subscription still count (for charts, royalties) and therefore count twice? Or does the server recognize that the song was purchased and not count the streams?
