I’m 14 and have been hatching chicks since I was 11, I would recommend using a wet q-tip to moisten the membrane before you tear it off

I actually had to do this this evening. Had the same problem with the membrane so I took a spray bottle filled with warm water and misted the membrane and it gave way much more easily and the chick slipped on out.

I have had to help out a few egg bound chicks over the years doing the same process. Even if a bit of the membrane is hardened and stuck to the chick it will eventually come off once you get the chick free from the egg. I like to give the chicks the best chance possible.

We though we had one more day before I really had to lock down and we had open it to do final check when we saw one was pipped. Now we're trying our best to help undo what we did. So far it's breathing well.

Thank you for showing this. We just had to do this for #11 of 12 after 24 hours pipped. She's out and chirping...so far so good.

2 of my chicks died in this stage but they had barely started pecking out the egg. So when do you know when to step in? I thought it might have been too early to help them out the egg. When I did break the chick out it looked perfectly healthy. Like no deformities and stuff.

I have 9 duck eggs in the incubator right now. Hatch days 28, they been in there for 30 days and i hear chirping but eggs are still intact. Can you give me some advice on how to help them get out of their shell successfully… also what brand of incubator do you use and where did you buy it? Any advice is truly appreciated. Thank you so much ❤

My daughter did this a few days ago and the chick survived but it has no feathers on it’s head and I’m afraid the others will kill it. Not sure what to do. It’s currently isolated with one other chick so it won’t be lonely. Any advice on integrating it with the others?

You need to wet the membrane while you're helping. With a warm cloth. You could really hurt the chick without doing it

I would use tweezers to keep from hurting them. I’m going through this now

Oh man I accidentally opened my incubator not realising two of my quail eggs had pipped. I know quail hatch way quicker than chickens and they’re still not out yet so now I’m super worried and I’m so nervous to do an assisted hatch

What’s the longest these little chicks can pip? I have one that’s one incubation day 22 and it pipped day 20 . Hoping it doesn’t dehydrate . It has a decent crack but just not making much headway. Thanks in advance

I dont get it tho. My humidity and temps were always where the incubator said they should be. The temp was always 99 the humidity on the first 18 days was always 52 55 then after 18 days 62 69. Half of my eggs are either dying or not forming.

Ok so I have a chick currently stuck bc I was opening up the lid like an idiot. But when I try to help, I see a small spot of blood. So I stop.
So I started to just peel back the shell and leave the membrane that bleeds. Then mist it with warm water. Help!!

So the chick made a hole but it since has not made an effort to rotate and mess whit the other side so i looked ad him and the skin on top, the really white one was very hard and litteraly in a vacum so i riped a little off at the part where theres space and a a slightly red watter started to leak a little and i wondered if thats ok or should i should do something

Wouldn't wetting it lightly help loosen it?

Should it be wise to put a warm, wet paper towel around it, then peel?

Internet advise told me not to intervene. Now I don’t hear any chirping or anything. I’m sure it died.
