So the encryption is controlled by a corporation. The corporation would turn over information to the authorities if served by a warrant.

Useful, but I'll just stick with not putting in data that can be used to harm me.

I was thinking to encrypt my phone and then factory reset it before selling it so would the buyers be able to use phone after buying but not accessing or retrieving my data?

Very interesting! This video taught me that I do not want to use encryption on my tablet. It could be a very good tool, I agree. I am all for security. It just sounds like too much work. Besides, couldn't "someone" just obtain your decryption password?

If you choose to encrypt your android device, it may only take a few minutes if you have little storage used. For example, I have 3.12GB of used storage (internal) and it took five minutes maximum for my android to encrypt the data.

I would really appreciate some answers:
- Do you need to wait long every time you power on a phone (my Nexus 5 with 16 Gb and it's almost completely filled with apps and music)?
- Since it's the same password/pin for both unlock screen and decrypting on boot what's the point? If someone don't know PIN he can't access data anyway since the phone is locked (same for the PC mounted storage, can't access before unlocking the screen). So if someone don't know PIN he can't access anything anyways, and if he knows PIN he can access everything anyways (just by typing it on boot) so what's the point? What are the actual advantages?
- Will I be able to receive normally updates of new Android versions? (Since new versions need to be installed from boot, and from boot everything is encrypted right?)
- Does new music for example that I store on my phone after the encryption gets instantly encrypted too or it stays "unlocked"? (or any other data for that matter)
- How much does it affect real life performance? I've read it can slow down your phone/tablet and I'm concerned cos I literally have always 95% filled storage space on my phone (so that means it will non-stop encrypt new things I store on it?).
Thanks in advance, I've tried multiple forums but I haven't got any (useful) answers.
