Great video. Question: At 3:50 you talk about entering a password to decrypt storage and how it's different from the PIN. You entered a password off screen. Was that a new password? If not, and it's not the same as the PIN, where did you enter it before encrypting? I got stuck here and had to wipe my device (a couple of weeks ago and before watching your video).

If someone steals my phone and decides to flash it using odin, can encrypting protect against that?

Actually, the storage isn't decrypted on boot, because that would mean it would need to be encrypted again when turned off.

It's booting the system before it asks for password, as system partition isn't encrypted, then it asks you to finish the boot by unlocking the encrypted data partition, where all your downloaded apps are, and personal data.

The decryption itself happens on the fly, when data is accessed, no permanent data on the flash chip is ever decrypted, which means if your device suddenly loses power, the data is still encrypted, only ram contains decrypted data, but data on ram fades away in seconds when power is lost.

Can you update easily the OS with your encripted device?

Could I update the OS normally for example from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 ?

Thks. You have done a pretty useful video. If you lose your phone you only need to regret about teh value of the phone and not your data.

I've always thought that the thief will definitely hard reset the phone prior to using. So all those security measures are useless.

I would love to see videos on keeping the nsa out of my business. We must protest against nsa or corruption will take over. No doubt they have dirt on every reporter, judge, general ect
