YEAH THAT’S RIGHT, always remember to use clean water or saline solution to clean your wound and then use antiseptic to disinfect your wound ( MAKE SURE YOUR HANDS ARE VERY CLEAN ), finally bandage your wound. *DO NOT* forget to check your wound every day, redisinfect and rebandage your wound every day ( Do what i mentioned earlier if you see your wound or bandage is not clean ). If it’s getting worse, go see a doctor.

So I get why pure water is used to clean the wound, but what do you suggest for disinfecting instead of the peroxide?

Reminder to only use peroxide once the wound is clean and to only use it the first day as peroxide generally irritates the skin and burns new edges on to the wound which helps ot heal. But if you were to keep doing this you would be burning new edges everyday till the wound cant heal properly and cause scars and scar tissue

Hydrogen peroxide actually rusts iron and can harm the iron in your blood.
If you want to clean a wound use isopropyl alcohol. Stings a lot less too, though still stings a lot

Somebody told me years ago to put hydrogen peroxide on a wound. I was super confused because i always put rubbing alcohol on open wounds. Hydrogen peroxide will just eat away at the dead skin (which is more than usual since the skin is torn open) Rubbing alcohol wont remove anything, just disinfect and slightly dry the wound.
