I'd use the foil-covered polyisocyanurate foam board they sell at building supply stores. It's are a little pricey compared with aluminum foil and cardboard, but you can put a nice frame around it and leave it there permanently. It's also flame retardant, though no hot water radiator is hot enough to start a fire. Also, it's important to watch out for windows with drapes; make sure any air convecting up from the radiator or other heating device is diverted into the room. Any hot air that gets between the drapes and the glass is likely to loose a lot of heat to the outside.

Caution if you leave painters tape up to long (months of winter) you risk it coming off with paint from the wood surfaces. Better use the tape made specifically for taping to window, it can still happen but the tape is less wide and not as noticeable.
