How to Shoot for Takedown in BJJ [Beginner Primer]

Most people don't come to BJJ with wrestling experience. As such it can be daunting to learn takedowns and easy to settle for groundwork. You don't have to do takedowns every class, but you must become proficient in bringing a resisting opponent to the ground if you're ever to be considered a complete grappler.

So many takedowns hinge on getting to the hips & legs. That starts with shooting in. Broken down into levels, the movements are digestible and help build confidence and muscle memory when it comes time for technical and live applications.

It's also hilarious when the kids do races from the kneeling variations

I looked this up and this is the first video I clicked. Super easy tutorial and well detailed. I already knew what I was doing wrong smh lol

A few minutes, and you explained this better than any coach I've ever had. The mistakes and variations really helped drive the point home! Great content.

Thank you. This is harder than it looks. Especially without it explained this way

Perfect man, thank you so much. Plus, from a BJJ guy, even better. Can't wait to perfect my technique now.

Capone...(ginga one side martelo de chao) except capoeira don't put knees and glutes on floor it's considered tapping because we work on concrete...i'm saying it's the same but movements have similarities

Is dropping the knee to the ground really necessary to shoot for a takedown?

I seen someone else commented what I was about to say, but every time I do these, I feel something pop/tear in my knee and its in pain for a few weeks. I am pretty much avoiding these know, not sure if my knees are just bad, or maybe im driving too far forward on the knee, any advice to prevent knee pain/minor tears while doing these would be appreciated?

I feel like if someone sprawled on you while doing this you could get tapped by the Achilles with your foot trapped in dorsiflexion like a wrist lock

Doesn’t this fuck up your knees over time?

How to do a takedown in bjj: you don’t

This is clearly someone who has never wrestled before. I still dont understand why people are trying to reinvent something that has existed for 200-plus years in wrestling. Any wrestler with experience who watches this knows this guy is a novice at takedowns. Stay in your lane and let a wrestler show takedowns.

Good Video, one more advice don't flair your elbows and do a penetration step while changing level.
