At the games where the 4050 is higher, the game tends to be more cpu intensive. With the 4050 laptop having an i9 13th gen, the difference is much lower so I'd say the 3060 is better in games that don't support FG

3060 is going to be a killer laptop GPU for a long time to come - a solid i7/3060 laptop is about the same strength as a PS5/Xbox series X. EDIT: AND you get more cuda cores than in the desktop GPU.. so at 95 watts, it's only about 5-10% slower than the full powered desktop variant.

I've no idea what the hell NVidia is doing cutting down buses and bandwidths down so hard.
This generation so far had possibly the most egregious ratio of amazing technology to horrible products :'(

Depending on the country, 140W 3060 laptops like A15 and Nitro 5 are now under $1000, definitely worth the money for this price range

Hey jarod, seeing this generation has many intel hx parts and many laptops are available with them too when compared to 12th gen releases. Would it be possible to conduct similar core configured h vs hx comparisons to see how much the power difference really affects and whether the battery life trade off would be worth it. If you already have a 3060, there is not point to upgrade. But if you are newcomers, surely pick the latest available with the budget you have. It would do but should have picked more VRAM for the future. Even on 1080p.

December last year I was debating whether to buy a 3060 or wait for upcoming 4050/4060. I can confidently say I'm glad I snagged my 3060/12700h/140w power limit for $857. No better cost per frame out there rn. ❤️

Recently bought Nitro 5 with 12700h and 3060 140 watt, couldn't be happier! It is also possible to heavily undervolt 3060 and get even more fps at lower tempetures. FG increases fps hugely but there are so few games which actually support it. In 2-3 years 4050 would beat 3060 easily with more and more games supporting FG but i would just change my laptop in 3 years with 5000 series perhaps rather than dealing with underperforming 4000 series...

Great content as always. But I have a small nitpick: The Performance Per Watt Graphs dont really show the difference between the GPUs but the difference between the used laptop modells. Since the 13900HX in the 4050 laptop simply uses more energy.

I really hope with RTX5000 Nvidia increases the core count and VRAM across the board, since its highly likely they will stay at the custom 5nm node for the next gen, the chips should be cheaper to manufacture 2 years after the RTX4000 launch.

I want to know how both GPUs perform when running softwares like Ansys and Solidworks because the 30 series product line was when Nvidia realized STEM people make up the other good portion of the GeForce's consumer base aside from gamers

The 1% lows are low at 1440p using the 4050 because frame generation uses more vram and the 4050 only has 6gb of it

Hi Jarrod,
Thanks to you I decided to go for Legion Slim 7i 12700h / RTX 3060 for a good deal.
Solid design and construction and many usb ports in the back that help maintain cables out of the way, I think all gaming/productivity laptops should have ports on the back.
One tip for better temps for those with Core i7 is to limit the Power on CPU bellow 70% in Windows Power management configuration.
I think for those modern CPUs there is no point on letting it use 100% power and create lots of heat when gaming, let`s just leave the heatpipes concentrate on removing heat from GPUs that really is the component the works at 99% 100% load.
CPU using 28 watts and GPU around 100W. Fans a little noisy but not a jet airplane like cheap laptops with cheap cooler system. If you really need a quiet machine than only a desktop com Do that but no mobility at all.
The keyboard can get a little toasty to my taste (used to game on desktop so no heat in the keyboard) but for the on the go capability is great.
I wonder how a new Legion Slim 7 with all AMD system would perform with 7600s or better.
Maybe less power consumption, low temps, better battery life lets see.

Get the 4050 guys, frame gen is a beast and you won't notice the difference unless you play competitive games. Look at the performance it produces, it is like a 3080 already. DLSS 3 adoption rate is extremely fast as well.

The graph with the wattage limit and performance is very interesting but it would be so much more helpful to have the clock frequency as well to see at what speed the performance doesn't increase anymore.

I already have 3060 on my gaming laptop. and I think it's my ideal gpu for 1080p non-RT gaming. at least for games that I usually play, it's more than enough.
although I tempted to buy 40 series rtx card because of their Frame Generations. making it viable for RT gaming on low-end cards. and from this review, it's really that good!
