Russia's #Ukraine blunder - #Finland & #Sweden poised to join NATO !

One of the most important reasons coming from the Russian side for the onslaught against Ukraine is NATO's eastward expansion towards its border.

Russian experts have argued that NATO's presence along its border is a security threat.
With the so-called 'special military operation' it hopes to prevent Ukraine from potentially joining NATO.

The argument was that this operation would stop NATO right in its tracks.

But Ukraine is not the only country that would like to go down that path.
Finland and Sweden are close partners with NATO but have shied away from joining the 30-member alliance.

NATO is a purely defensive alliance and that really bothers an aggressive bully like Russia.

In an apparent bid to cow Finland and Sweden, Russia has done flyovers of both and Russia has talked about taking over Gotland. Plus Russia has had nuclear weapons in the Kaliningrad Oblast for years.

If they join NATO Russia will have to send its forces to their shared border. This, of course, assumes there is anything left after Ukraine. Which is less and less likely.

Given the awful performance by the Russian military in Ukraine, Russia wouldn't be able to invade Finland & Sweden - without reverting to tactical nuclear weapons.

I honestly hope Finland and Sweden join Nato although I fully appreciate it’s the people of those countries that will make that decision.
Both Finland and Sweden would be welcomed with open arms into the alliance.

Finland and Sweden joining Nato would add to two excellent militaries into the alliance and two fantastic peoples.

Finland and Sweden joining Nato would really annoy Putin and Russia and that’s an excellent bonus - it will cause a headache for the Russian military having to defend against an extended Nato/Russian border.

I’d love to see a leader from NATO, or from any neutral country, asking Putin to explain why Ukraine, Sweden or Finland joining NATO would be a security risk to Russia. Deep down inside Putin knows if this happens Russia would stand no chance to invade these countries. To him, that’s the “risk”.
