Drunk driver sentenced to 22 years in woman's death

Shawna Smith, 37, went to the Florida State Fair with her kids a day before she was killed in a crash on Interstate 75 near Big Bend Road. A jury convicted Alberto Vigo of driving drunk and rear-ending Smith’s Ford SUV while trying to pass her on the interstate.

The crash caused her vehicle to overturn and she died from her injuries. He hoped the judge would go easy on him but Smith's two children, along with other family and friends, attended the hearing and gave Vigo a piece of their mind.

Smith’s best friend Cherie Morris said, "(He) left her laying on the side of the road. Didn't stop. Didn't care. That person killed my best friend and their mother."

I have been watching news daily and many Latinos got pull over for DUI. They don't normally stop when they hit you and mostly like have no insurance and driving with a suspended license. This one will only do 18 years the most and he is still young. He will be out and live his life but unfortunately the woman was gone. She can no longer live her life with her baby.

So SAD as this is occurring consistently across this Nation at an alarming rate where 62% of all hit and run drivers flee the scene and leave the victim alone to die. He should have received life imprisonment without parole for the MURDER of this mother of two children. Another unlawful Mexican allowed to enter this Country illegally as a Felon, but law enforcement does little to mitigate this plight. WHY?!
