1st Leg of Tesla Model Y Towing Casita Camper Cross Country Roadtrip

1st Leg of the trip is Calhoun GA to Manchester TN. 130 miles! Can I go that far pulling the Casita? Ultimately I have to make it all the way to Idaho, where my family will be joining me for the second half of the trip.

So why is the first leg so far? Well there is a Tesla supercharger in Chattanooga, only 50 miles away. But its at the airport in a super crowded parking area. So I would have to go through the gate, get into the airport, find a place to park the Casita, charge, and then reverse the whole process. I decided just driving slower and going all the way to the supercharge in Manchester would be easier than all that, as long as I can actually go that far...

Towing while going uphill is hell. But going downhill?

Love to see there was no range anxiety while towing! See you on the road this fall!

Averaging ~400 WH/mi is astoundingly good. It makes sense that climbing or speeding up uses a lot more, but that average is surprising!

I have been watching all your Tesla towing videos, and many others on YouTube, with great interest! From what I can tell, the weight of the trailer matters little compared to wind resistance which is why you use significantly more energy when on the highway going faster! Based on this, my first suggestion for you to improve your mileage and reduce your wind resistance if to remove that transverse hose holder tube under the front of your trailer, or at least rotate it 90 degrees to go down the length of the trailer. Less drag = more miles! Can't wait for my Cybertruck so I can start towing like you! Thanks!

Love how you got the added safety of the factory screen film left on, yet you decided to find out if you were good to clear the overpass by driving under it. 🤣

Oh the range anxiety! Looks like you managed it quite well despite keeping us on the edge of our seats.

Nice! Thanks for the energy usage info.

You're absolutely right, you should drive slow first and speed up later.

I assume at the end you meant 452 watt hour per mile, right? watt like horse power is a unit of power not a unit of energy. It is like saying I used 100 horse power to go 1 mile.

hi thanks for the video. Is it correct that camper dry weight + passengers + cargo in the trailer + cargo in tesla must be less than 3500lbs?

Gee, that looks like a pain in the butt. And I’m a long time RVer who now has two Tesla’s. I think my RV days are over.

Does Tesla offer HUD? I think I would want most of that data projected on the windshield while driving.
How useful do you think a Tesla Camper atop a Tesla battery trailer would be? Would the added weight cancel out any gains from the extra battery power? Having Segway-type self-balancing trailer and extra motor to rotate the trailer tires to relieve electric load from the car motors during rolling starts or going uphill would seems useful.
Does Tesla offer reserve charge; like the reserve gas tank on motorcycles? It would give me great peace of mind knowing that in an emergency I could flip a switch and use the "idiot" batteries.
Nice video. You just drove new traffic to the Tesla website.

What are the specs of your trailer? I would like to to a pop up A-Liner which is ~1600 lb and lower profile but always hard to know how the aerodynamics work out.

Do you plug in the camper to the outlet next to the tow hitch to give power to the camper?
