The volvo C70 T5 (or any other volvo with the 2, 3 T5 engine) is also a great car for this price range. It sounds amazing thanks to the 5 cylinder engine and has 240hp.

BMW E46 330i is the best 200hp car in my opinion. RWD and perfect balance. Great looks and gives amazing driver feedback. Sure you might need to have some money for repairs but it's beyond that. A true affordable unique luxury drivers car.

i got a 97 cobra for $2000 and another $1500 i got her on the road... fox chassis 1979-2004 mustangs are a solid way to get a fun car for that price. for reference the cobra of that year makes 305 stock

Such a shame that you can't get any of these cars here in Holland for those prices. And when you do have one, your taxes and insurance are extremely high. The only car that is cheap on this list is the 156 (wich is also one of my favourites), but then the taxes come in...

Any manual transmission BMW e34 is great sub $5k car. RWD, great engine options (m20, m30, m50 and m60), all obd1, 4 doors, reliable cars, solid cheap efficient and the 6 cylinders are great candidates for forced Induction, and some even have an LSD ;)

youll never find a good condition srt4 for under 5k. in my are they are around 8k. want cheap and fast go for a 350z. or chevy cobalt and or saturn ion redline

You forgot about the corolla t-sport. It has the same angine as the celica, is a bit more practical and handles quite good.

Also in the US you can usually find a 4th Gen Camaro or Firebird in decent condition around that price point and they handle very well for being muscle cars. Bonus if you can get one with the LS1, those have up to 320hp depending on trim!
