In real retrospect* the portals obviously don't materialize on gas or liquids, or it would never make it to the walls they point it at. it only materializes when it hits a flat solid surface, otherwise it becomes corrupt, which is why it doesn't work on many surfaces. So it would travel straight through the sun. Also, it takes 8 minutes for the sun's light to reach us, so you'd have to "lead" it, and have pretty dam good aim.

In retro aspect.... the wormhole (the second it touched the sun) would have destroyed the earth's environment killing us all.. but.. wormholes can only touch solids, or flat goo like liquids.. soo.. fail, btw anyone else see the car pulling out :L.. but still, good attempt
