I remember learning Tig and everyone said just max it all out and control it with your pedal

I've only done aluminum with a spool gun a couple times and I was surprised by how hot I had to turn it up on aluminum (relative to steel) before it started to behave right.

The most important thing I ever learned about welding thin aluminum, it has a hard surface and a soft interior, hot enough to penetrate the surface and cool enough not suck back the other side!

😮 Hot and fast that's what My old boss said
Great advice it also keeps it from working
And you don't have to worry about

You don't have to worry about your weld falling off

The best one I heard was "turn the heat up Martha we ain't baking cookies"

I worked on the pipeline w a welder who would turn his Lincoln sa200 wide open and run beads. Every weld tested perfect. We could outrun everyone.

Voltage determines the weld profile, current AKA amperage determines penetration. In most gmaw processes wire speed is proportional to current output including aluminum, gun angle is much more critical on aluminum than steel.

Sometimes there ain't no numbers to read, have to say "turn it up a ¼ inch"

You ALMOST created something here that non welders could have learned something. You got the fun music, great editing, a script, decent acting, actual welding…. I was smiling waiting for the punch line and then….the video started over. ☹️Looking forward to the rest of the video if the deep abyss of YouTube Shorts ever presents it.

I don't know shit about welding, but I know it's an art. It takes years of experience to do it perfectly

That's how we weld steel at work. The wire feeder gets the, "turn it up til the knob stops...then break it off, " treatment. The voltage is turned until you can no longer fill the holes it blows through the piece, then back down 2 volts.

I never went to welding school but I did learn in the job making armored vehicles. Worked with ballistic steele amd aluminum. Some times mild steel

Appreciate you explaining why and showing us what happens, this was very educational

there's one thing I've learned it's not the tool it's who's using it

As a fresh welder whos new to the industry i already hate when other people assume just make it hot and melt it. I appreciate the lil funny short about it.

Hotter is better penetration but aluminum warps all to hell when you weld it so fixturing is critical and don't heat soak your part. It's a bitch to fix even if you can. Which is rare. Plus a spool gun will leave a raise on the opposite side of the weld that you have to flap wheel flat or if it's not too bad, a scotchbrite surface conditioning disc. Brown are the coarsest and they're the best to me, and a little bit of tool wax on the flaps (sounds dirty) will lengthen the lifetime of the surf con pads
