I started with only having 1/8 filler welding some not so clean 1/16 material and i found my welds improved when i got some 1/16 filler but that's probably because my material isn't new and it doesn't matter how much i clean it's still contaminated and my technique still needs hell of a lot of work

Aside from wiping down the filler should it be wire brushed first? I'm assuming it gets oxidization like the base metal. 🪙
