It's not based on a dragon, but rather the Japanese wind weasel yokai.

This clip does this guy dirty. Hes not even talking about odagaron here in the full video. Him saying “this is a dragon” is in reaction to nergigante, not oda. Nergigante and other elder dragons defy natural science, not because of the powers they have, but simply because they have a spine with too many limbs.

Odogaron is actually a dinosaur. In Capcoms own evolutionary chart Flying, Bird, Fanged and Brute Wyverns came from Saurischia and are thus dinosaurs. Other dinosaurs from Ornithischia are also in the game. Elder Dragons are mostly actual dragons with some that clearly aren't.

Dragons aren't real in the sense that they're not giant flying lizards with fire breath.

Technically, the Odogaron is a wolf-like creature because of its name, which means
"Angry toothed wolf" (Odo/odoús=tooth/fang and garon/garō=angry/hungry wolf.)
It is also classified as a fanged beast, and lacks typical features of other dragon-like wyverns (ex Raths, Kushala exc..)

Odogaron seems to be inspired by mustelids like weasels and crocodilians like kaprosuchus so even they follow the principles of taking from life to make fiction

If dragons existed i would have a theory on how they breath fire. Their teeth could be like flint stone to make a spark while they have another organ that produces a flammable gas capable of closing and opening and getting the gas to get blown out with a breath of their lung getting ignited by the teeth and breathing fire
