Genesis was written by people who were not actually there, you know that right? So they wrote "tecella" that I, given the examples in the Bible you mentioned, would have translated as "side of" or "piece of" depending on the sentence context. The translators translated it as "rib" but if you feel your "side" you feel ribs and that is probably what the translators of old also used as reference. It should have been translated as "piece of" rather than "rib". A similar thing could happen if you would have to translate Afrikaans to English in the example "Hy het die kamer binne gekom deur deur die deur te loop" -> "He entered the room by walking trough the door". Notice how "deur" has 3 meanings in that 1 sentence. "Deur" is "by", "deur" is also " trough" and "deur" is also "door".

Point is God took a piece if Adam to create Eve, still does not change fact that Adam was created first and Eve from a piece of Adam. God made Adam from dust and breathed life into him, God could have done the same for Eve but instead chose to take a piece of Adam, not a great big chuck or half of him, when He made Eve so she was part of Adam and "completed" him. Nowhere does it say Eve is equal to Adam, she completes Adam. Just like Adam she to was created in the image of God because Adam was created in the image of God. Nowadays we know the piece God took could have been just his DNA and he constructed Eve from that. Point is Adam is "incomplete", Eve is the "missing" piece of him and together they are "complete".

PS. Notice how Adam is not completed by Steve but by Eve.

Adam was supposed to be the leader of the two, because when Eve ate the forbidden fruit nothing happened but when Adam ate, their eyes were widened, but this doesn't mean he is more just than she, they are one, as is meant to be equal.

Actually, the word "ti" first appears in ancient Sumerian and has a double meaning. Ti does indeed mean rib, but also means life. So the lady of the rib ( ninti) is also the lady of life ( ninti). Tila and tisela probably have a double meanings of which rib and life were meant to be part of its meaning. This was very charactaristic of the Sumerian language. These double meanings lent themselves well to poetry and puns. Sumer was the first true civilization with written records. It later became Babylon, Abraham came from Ur in Babylon, and the Israelites were later taken captive to Babylon by Nebuchanezzar, and scribes and literate people were made to study Akkadian ( the official language of Babylon) and translate all their Hebrew texts into Akkadian. This was a common practice when a country was conquered by Babylon. Daniel and his colleagues were probably conscripted as slaves for that purpose. So there was much flowing back and forth between cultures. An older written account of the Sumerian version about the rib and life was a god who had been mortally wounded, and seven gods and goddesses each took a part of that god and healed it. The goddess who healed his rib and breathing was Ninti. the lady of the rib, was also the lady of life. ( it even has an unintended coincidental double meaning in English, meaning that a lady of ribbing humor is also a lady of life)
If you look carefully, there are two different creation stories side by side in Genisis. On a side note, Sumerian women had more rights than later Babylonian women. For example, a woman could divorce her husband under certain circumstances. If he couldn't provide for her, or sire children for example. It was also against the law to strike ones wife. Women could even own property. Adultery was a serious crime. Men however had some recourse. They were legally allowed to have extramarital relations as long as it was with a temple prostitute.

The translation he is talking about is the King James Bible; a 1611 translation. Yes, it is a bad translation and that is one of the many reasons why Christianity in English is deeply screwed up but that doesn’t apply to any other Christian group. Christians who do not speak/read English, and who predate 1611 never believed Eve was a “spare-part” or less than men. Protestants and English believe women are less than men because of this translation but others do not. It is a fair critique of a small group of so-called Christians but you are significantly off if you think all Christians, at all times thought this before 1611. This is why many wanted to ban the 1611 edition, because it is so far off the original Greek manuscripts.
